The unlimited Internet is nice. But fact is I use it for checking emails, google maps and not much more. I also have unlimited SMS
It is hard to justify increasing my monthly fees from $47 to $80. Multiply that by 2X phones, then it will become $180 (taxes in) a month instead of less than $110 a month.
They definitely have to have some middle of the road plan.
Wind at your service! I dont work for Wind either!
I have to say, these plans are incredibly disappointing. I currently pay $77.25 with taxes and fees for my Rogers plan, which has all the upgrades and everything I want, including 6GB of data. If I were going to get on Wind I would HAVE to get the Always Shout @ $45 plan plus the Infinite Mobile @ $35 in order to match the services I get with Rogers. (Always Talk @ $35 would be nice, but 50 text messages is crap and definitely insufficient). That means I would be paying $80 a month before tax on Wind. The advantages to Wind are that I'd be truly unlimited in my minutes, so I wouldn't have to worry about daytime calls, and I wouldn't have to worry about my long distance anymore. However, since I only pay about $3-$4 a month in those overages on Rogers, these plans definitely do not make sense.
To say I am disappointed in these plans would be an understatement. I will not pay MORE to switch to Wind, and pay a DECF and ECF to Rogers and buy a new phone so I can make the switch. I'm hoping that this leaked information is incorrect, otherwise this is a sad sad day for Canadian Wireless.
I hope there is an option for some decent data rates for light users, because as good as $35 for unlimited data is, it's too much for someone who just wants to browse a few webpages.
Having overages is just going to cause problems. $30 for 6GB was a great deal, but occasionally going over that sucks. I think Wind is better off not offering something in between and just doing unlimited - no suprises that way, and nothing to go wrong on the billing end.
Please don't PM me asking questions that could very easily be asked publicly.
Band I/1 = IMT, 2100 (rarely wrongly referred to as 1900/2100)
Band II/2 = PCS, 1900 (never wrongly referred to as 1800/1900)
Band III/3 = DCS, 1800 (never wrongly referred to as 1700/1800)
Band IV/4 = AWS, 1700 (often wrongly referred to as 1700/2100)
Band V/5 = CLR, 850
Band VIII/8 = GSM, 900
It's more like post 5GB P2P traffic gets throttled. So if you have 20GB of YouTube videos, nothing gets throttled. If you have 20GB of torrents, the first 5GB aren't throttled, the next 15GB get throttled.
I'd gladly pay $10 for 1gb, on the $15 plan, throw in a decent amount of sms (more than 50). as long as caller id is included I'd be very happy.
+1. I don't think I could ever be more satisfied by a plan like that.
For me $15 plan just needs:
1000 SMS
100-200 mins
I would gladly add 1GB data plan should it be offered at a really reasonable price ($10-$15) + voicemail and I would be set. I would be looking at about $30-35 for a plan like that.
Not too bad. Id probably go with the $15 voice and $35 data. Voip and 100 mins all I would need.
I would love to make the switch. But a $480 ECF is in my way. It is tempting though. Im sure now telus and the rest will follow suit. But all I know is none of the big 3 will get another contract signing from me.

In that case they should not offer any talk plans that do not have unlimited minutes. No surprises that way if you talk to much. Same with sms. Less confusing too, we all just pay $80/month and never worry about anything.
Chat plan has 10 cents per minute overage, so theoretically they can cap your bill to $35 if you use more than 300 anytime minutes.
That would fix the problem of the big price gap, and decrease confusion/risk. I would seriously seriously love that option. Right now Chat is the best for me but sometimes it might not be, and I'd rather not pay 35 a month every month.
I imagine that most of the people griping here feel the same way. Although even if I did have to pay 35, its still the most value for my dollar - whether I choose to use 5+ hours of talk time a month or not.
I think that honestly, the plans are not that great, but they are decent.
But for those who are comparing and saying that they are totally bad, I think otherwise. There really is no purpose in comparing one's RETENTION plan (from rogers/fido/bell/telus) with what Wind is offering, because retention plans require for people to jump through hoops to get a better deal. You guys should really just be comparing what is typically offered (i.e. online, or deals that are available directly IN-STORE, if you signed up right now). Comparing grandfathered plans with what Wind is offering is also a very poor method of comparison. Overall it's saying "I will compare this new company a with the old company b, but I've jumped through hoops to get a good deal, or I have been a loyal company for xx years so I am getting a better deal than is offered to regular customers". You really can't compare the two.
Plans are great, but I'll stick to my $37.50 ($45ish after discount and bundles) for the time being. It has 250 min, 500MB data, u/l text/etc. VM,CID, etc. just for comparison's sake.
I need somewhere along the lines of 300 min, 2GB data and 1k text for $35 for me to switch. It is just the fact that there is no middle of the road plan between the Chat and the Always Talk plans. Something like a $25 1k minutes, 1k text plan would surely entice many to pay ECF and switch over. But at this very moment, the plans only entice non-retention users and those looking for a completely new plan.
In addition, there needs to some sort of moderate usage data plan. Something like $10 for 1GB or the sort. I don't exclusively tether and would need no more than 1GB a month.
Don't get me wrong, the authorization from Mr. Clement is a great step forward in forcing the incumbents to seriously reevaluate its user base and their needs. Surely I will be the first one in line setting up lines for my parents, but as for myself, I'll see if they introduce a middle of the road plan, and then I will decide if I want to pay Rogers a $500 ECF.
