New Google Phone! Also, Will Probably Work on WIND!

    Hey guys,

Google has confirmed on their official blog that they are currently "dogfooding" a mobile device.

There have been various tweets about the device from Google employees who were given the device to test.

TechCrunch is saying that the device will feature a "super high resolution" OLED display (guessing somewhere near 800x480?), Snapdragon CPU, and a mic on the back of the phone that helps eliminate background noise (that sounds interesting).

It's also apparently supposed to run Android 2.1 (not surprising, but awesome)

Best of all though, and what also brings me to why I made this thread:

TmoNews is saying that the device will be sold directly by Google, will be sold unlocked, but supported by T-Mobile by launch (maybe AT&T as well which would be interesting mix of bands)! That of course means, it will work on WIND! WOOT! :P

Here's to hoping it will be as awesome as all the hype!

So far I can't say I'm interest in the devices rumored to be released on WIND at launch, but man am I interested in this device!

Oh and for more info you can check out these Engadget and Gizmodo posts.

    The link above states:

The phone will be sold strictly by Google, T-Mobile will NOT sell the device.

... which if past history is any predictor means it will NOT be sold in Canada in 2010.
    Sorry about that, chief!

No problem, should still be easy to purchase.

I'll be saving my pennies for this one!

How is that relevant? The only reason to care if a phone is sold in your region is because you want to get it subsidized. If that's not an option that what does it matter if you get it off ebay.

Why would it not be sold in Canada? If Google is selling it, presumably they would do it online. Why would they exclude Canada?

    What? lol

It shouldn't matter it T-Mobile is selling the device or not since you won't be getting their subsidy anyway.. The important thing is that it will be SUPPORTED by T-Mobile, and that it will be sold by Google. That means there will definitely be ways of getting it across the border (unless Google ships to Canada), and we can be sure that it would work with WIND.

    Oh, lol

Sorry I didn't catch that. :P I just did a quick title search for "Google" and "Google Phone" and didn't get anything so I just posted. Didn't think about searching "GPhone", which is what's in your title. :P

    Oh well

Warranty coverage is important to many people. The more expensive a phone, the bigger the loss if it fails. I greatly enjoyed my 1st-generation iPhone here in Canada... for about 9 months until it had a touch-screen failure.

If sold by Google directly and they wish to be carrier neutral, then we can expect it to support all voice and data frequencies. If that wishful thinking becomes reality, it will be the world's first and something a lot of us have been hoping ever since digital phones came into existence.
