Getting MMS (picture messaging) to work on Alltel branded phones
About six months ago, my friend on a verizon postpaid plan damaged his phone. He was in need of a new phone so I gave him an old one I had. The phone I gave him was an ALLTEL branded LG AX5000. This phone was originally used with an alltel postpaid plan, then later it was used with Unicel postpaid plan.
When the phone was being used with Alltel mms worked, but with Unicel mms did not work.
After giving my friend my old LG AX5000, we walked into the Verizon Store gave the phone to an employee at the store. My friend said he wanted to use the LG AX5000 as his phone instead of his current one. The Verizon employee said "ok" and after approximately 2 minutes my friend was able to use my old LG AX5000 as his new phone. Talk, text and picture messaging all worked perfectly.
So why is Verizon able to activate an Alltel phone on their network and have everything working, but my Alltel branded phone I have with Page Plus only has Talk and Texting. I want to be able to send picture messages.
This got me thinking. What if I have my friend activate my Alltel branded Page Plus phone (the one I'm currently using) on his Verizon account for a day, and then have him switch back to using his own phone. Assuming mms (picture messaging) worked on my Alltel phone being used on his verizon postpaid plan, I would then reprogram my Alltel phone to be my Page Plus phone once more.
Would Verizon's system then somehow recognize my Alltel Phone's MEID as one of its own and let it use data so picture messaging would work?
I'll most likely try this within the next 2 to 3 weeks. If I do I'll post back to say whether I was able to get mms working doing this.
Because, you aren't thinking about what is the underlying cause of why data does not work or would work. Data transmission signal/destination. As long as an Alltel phone has the correct settings (which may or may not work as intended as it is), it should be able to make a connection and use data.
One simple answer is to simply flash the Alltel phone to the Verizon firmware.
As for whether or not Verizon will accept an Alltel MEID makes no difference if the data connection settings are wrong. That's like asking Revol/Cricket if you can use VZW and not change any settings to match the opposite network.
