According to reviews, the VX8575, Chocolate Touch has exceptional call quality. I know that it has plenty of volume on the receiving end, seems like great reception and people on the other end have no problem hearing me.

Hi.I just recently switched to Verizon and bought an Env3. I love almost everything about the phone with one important exception: it sucks as a phone. I generally hear about every other word from the person I am speaking with, which gets fairly frustrating. Does anyone know of a similar text oriented phone with really good call quality? If I have to I'll give up the querty keyboard, but it seems like it shouldn't be too much to ask to have both. I have a little over a week to trade the phone in before I'm stuck with it.
Thanks.![]()

Thanks! I'll look into that one. I'm also seriously considering a voyager.
My daughter hasn't complained about her Voyager (the updated version is called the Env Touch), but she text messages far more than she makes voice calls.

have you: a) updated the firmware or b) considered just getting the unit switched out? if you already love the en3, why wouldn't you at least try a different unit?Originally Posted by Telecide
Perhaps something is wrong with your phone. I know several people that have that phone with no complaints. Or it’s the coverage in your area?
enV Touch is a great phone with great call quallity. If you are not wanting a smartphone, then that is a good choice. If you wouldn't mind looking at a smartphone, the Moto Droid and blackberrys have GREAT call quallity. Motos have always had great call quallity, and I never had a problem with BlackBerrys when it came to call quallity.Originally Posted by Telecide
Then enV3 is not great when it comes to call quallity. My grandmother has one (that sounds so strange to say) and I notice its not up to par with the enV Touch, Moto Droid, or BlackBerrys.Originally Posted by PACWEST
Thanks for all the replies guys! I probably should try at least updating the firmware, but I have read about others having similar issues with this phone. And call quality is somewhat subjective I guess, but I find it hard to believe people are willing to put up with conversations where every other word is "what?"
I'm also not if I'll have another month to evaluate my new phone, or whether I'm still on the same clock from when I started my service.
The droid and blackberries are tempting. In fact I tried my grandmothers phone, which is a blackberry, and it sounded great! But I don't really use data much and I don't want to pay for something I don't use.
I have had an ENV3 since August and I cannot complain about the call quality. I had the RAZR 3 before this and really hated to consider owning an LG (aka Goldstar).
I did have an issue with the phone turning itself off at seemingly random times but that was resolved with the latest firmware update.
My ENV3 is every bit as clear and crisp as the RAZR during voice calls which is all I can ask. I would suggest that you have an issue with the individual unit and not the model itself.

Just remember you can only swap a phone out 2 times. After the 2nd time, you can't swap it out. Try the update, if that doesn't seem to fix it, then see which phone you like best. Did you get the phone at a corp store? If so, they should have test phones to try in the store. And yeah, higher end phones will usually sound better. Better build usually.Originally Posted by Telecide
Just an FYI, if you get any of the LG touches you will have to get the data plan. Went through this over the weekend, my wife ended up with the enV3 because of the mandatory data plan. She didn't see paying $120/yr. as a privilege to use a touch phone.Originally Posted by Telecide
And as a side, the call quality has been excellent!
If you are talking about changing to a different model in the original 30 day window, then that's actually limited to 1 exchange, unless something changed recently.Originally Posted by CellKrazeDude
I hate to chime in on this thread, because handset voice quality is so subjective, but I think I have something useful to add ...
I personally think that it has a lot to do with the sound of a person's voice. My voice is fairly deep and full of bass, and it muddles out and sounds like I am mumbling on my VU30. I have kept the phone since it gets great signal, however, I have had multiple people say that it sounds like I'm mumbling, and that my words are cutting together. I actually called my Mother (no, I'm not a kid anymore) from my phone, and then called her from my wife's enV 3 and my Mother was floored at how much better than enV 3 sounded to her. She told me what I should get whatever phone that is that my wife has. But I realize it might not sound good at all with some types of voices.
My suggestion would be to go to the Verizon store and make outgoing calls from the handsets that you are interested in (they are usually active at least in my market), and have a person who you trust judge the quality of each. It's important since you can only do one exchange.
What sounds good to one listener, with one person's voice, might sound bad to another. I feel that it's important to try them out first.
Good luck!
