Thanks to Indohan for posting that link in the 2.1 pre-release thread.
It looks like the ESE53 that was leaked is the actuall Droid update to 2.1.
I assume they removed the adb root (development root), but the number is the same as I already have on my ESE53 Droid (C_01.3E.03P).
So we're done here - now we can start threads about froyo.
When it is done stable and ready for release...lol (j/k) All kidding aside word of mouth is within the next few wks. Last I had heard was by the end of the month, but noone really knows as of yet.
From the various threads on the topic here, the rumored date for the Droid (assuming that's the phone your asking about since your profile is blank) is 1/22.
One dude we didn't really expect to see at an event touting the HTC-sourced Nexus One was Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha, but sure enough, he showed up at the tail end of the show to take a few questions. The big news there might be his statement that he "thinks" his company will update the Droid to use the Nexus One's build -- Android 2.1 -- meaning that there's a fighting chance we'll see first-party 3D accelerated apps, live wallpapers, and a replacement for that infernal app drawer on Verizon's flagship device. Interestingly, Jha and Andy Rubin have defended Android's fragmentation with different devices getting updated to new versions at vastly different paces by pointing out that 2.1's 3D support wouldn't have been possible if backward compatibility was a priority (in other words, first-gen devices without 3G chipsets don't stand much of a chance here). And hey, how are they going to get you to spill a few hundred bucks every year or two if the phones don't run significantly more awesome software?
Oh. I just thought since Droid was a "Google Experience etc" it would just get pushed over to it.
No, google experience just means that the carrier has to play by google's rules when it comes to the phone. In exchange for the google branding on the device, the manufacturer agrees to include certain google applications on the devices as well as not to censor the marketplace.
Google doesn't have a direct hand in the actual builds that go on these devices outside of setting up guidelines. It's up to the manufacturer to create them.
anyone know if the Eris is practically-speaking powerful enough for the live wallpapers and 3d stuff they are talking about? if it comes with 2.1 i would assume so since people keep suggesting the Eris may go straight from 1.5 to 2.1. though if the source is only open in a couple days, there is no way the Eris would get 2.1 before the end of Q1.
