Well, I guess I am no. 5 that completely agrees with you. I don't want any "social networking" crap on my phone. Don't people have anything better they need or want to do?

I turned all the IM stuff off on my home computer because I would sit down to work, business emails, etc. and would get constant popups - "whatya doin?" - I'm f-ing working, now leave me alone!. Then I am a jerk.

Call me, email or text me so I can completely ignore you.

Social networking preferences are directly correlated to age (and sex, to some extent). Sure, some young people don't like social networking sites either, of course.

But social networking is huge, huge, huge. It is a very wise business decision to include these social networking widgets and whatnot. Those of us that don't use or like them can simply not use them. We would also simply not buy the Devour, or any other phone who's target audience is people who rely heavily on social networking.

There should be no ill effects to having Moto Blur with a lot of social networking options though. They don't seem to affect anything on my Devour that I've been testing - I leave the social networking stuff alone on the Devour, and they leave me alone.

I agree it's wise for companies to take advantages of these fickle demographics, one of my favorite promotions was the one where Burger King got people to drop Facebook friends for a free burger (or something like that). I'm actually a little sad all of these cool ideas, integration features, and effort are put into them because I will always ignore them.

For me stock android is much prettier than Blur right now and it's stock so there will less required for vendors to get their devices up to date. Though being a software engineer myself it seems like that these enhancements aren't integrated into the OS code portably enough. Or they could just do a lot of testing... something my company doesn't do.

I do like Sense because all their non social widgets are top notch as well as all their media apps. I like the bar at the bottom of the home screen too thought the add a widgets button is really dumb. It should be a dedicated camera button or contacts like Blur.

This thread is getting way off topic though. Let's get back to the speculation about some bad *** hardware. So 4.3" OLED screen and LTE, right bill23?

You seem to like Sense for the same reason you dislike Blur.

I think that one of the best things about Android is the fact that the manufactures can create UI's to separate themselves. Updates are not as big of a factor in the mobile phone world since the lifespan of a phone isn't much longer than the lifespan of updates (once a phone is out there, no reason to update it except to fix bugs usually). I say let them carve their own niche - if Moto wants to target the tweens with their social networking Blur, then that is fine with me. Let HTC target me with the Sense UI.

From my very limited experience with Blur it is all about social network, Sense is about lifting the all around Android experience (and social networks is a part that I can ignore) to make it prettier and a bit easier to use.

I'd like it if HTC and Moto allowed more choice. I'm all for them adding things to android, but it is at the cost of slowing down system update and jumping through hoops to remove things you don't want.

I'm sure people would want HTC to have a Nexus One with keyboard just like a keyboard less Droid would interest me. I feel like this is what google is trying to do with their www.google.com/phone market. The problem is there is just one phone right now.

Sorry hate to stay off topic....but seems motoblur is horribly misunderstood. All the average consumer sees is the widgets/UI but I believe what's really unique are the servers and cloud stuff. Hopefully they will use that backend to do something more interesting than the "cool to hate it" social networking.

I agree, there are parts of Blur that go way beyond Social Networking. That is just the most visible because of the widgets on the home screen.

For example. the cloud storage and remote wipe are of benefit to some of us.

Interesting how some people don't like Blur. However, you have to keep in mind that once the device is rooted it will be possible to port over Sense, or something else . If you are here in HoFo I assume you're at least smart enough to read instructions on how to flash a rom, no ? Although, imo, I don't like MotoBlur one bit.

I'm here at HoFo, and I'm definately not the average user, but I'm also not very picky and don't care what the UI looks like nor would I really notice. So even though I have the knowledge, I'm still like most normal users in the fact that I wouldn't notice or care much about the UI - so long as it does what I need it to do (though of course I can also "make it" do what I want, if I have to).

My point is this: I see no difference in Moto Blur and the normal Android UI (from a not-very-attentive user stand point). Some of the settings and Home options are slightly different between my Droid and my Devour, but if I didn't know there was something called Moto Blur, I would simply think that the Devour had different settings and things because it was a different version OS and that there were extra social networking things because Moto added them. And that's about as far as my "thinking" would go - I could care less why.

    So.......

We're still thinking June/July as a release date correct? My $100 NE2 credit is burning up my pocket. 4.3" display, 8 MP camera, HDMI output, 2.1 Android with Blur?

How are those pictures coming along MauryGlomstien?

^^^Not a chance for June/July release last I heard. It is a long way from being done yet. I was told earliest will be 3rd QTR of this year.

Really?? So Bill (unless I misunderstood him) was wrong to state a June/July? Then September for the Droid2?

Personally I don't recall Bill ever saying June/July so I can't say for sure to be honest. And he would know more then me. But last I had heard that is way to soon. Plus you need to keep in mind the actual projected released date they work off of and what actually happens are 2 different things. So until it is really close there is no telling when it will be released.

Prime example is the Droid or the Rival from last year. Rival was stated to be Jan/feb of 09 and it didn't hit until June if I'm not mistaken. Droid was supposed to be earlier then the Nov date also, so it just really boils down to when it is done and the carrier gives the approval for release, but I'd be very surprised to see if by summer time that is for sure

I only read what bill says in threads I happen to read, but I don't recall any dates either - bill tends to shy away from things like that anyway.

I do know what impressions I got from bill. The mirage/shadow/whatever was mid/late summer at the earliest, and the droid2 he said was still being built so there was no timetable yet. At least that is what I got out of various bill posts.
