Motorola Shadow Pre-Release Thread

Guys, I must respectfully ask you all to stay on topic a little better so we don't get this thread locked. I am very, very interested in this device for a multitude of reasons and I want it to stay open. That being said, these are the questions that I believe are still outstanding:

1.) Is the Shadow still on for a late June/early July release?

2.) Will it or will it not have MotoBLUR? (Of course, this is mostly a moot point as BLUR is easily disabled and the processor will easily be able to overcome any difference in speed from the stock Android UI to MotoBLUR.)

3.) Will the Shadow be released with Android 2.2 (Froyo) and therefore Flash support?

4.) Will the device have an FM radio tuner?

5.) Will the device have HD radio?

6.) Will the screen be a TFT LCD or an OLED-type display?

7.) Will the device have a front-facing camera along with a rear-facing camera?

8.) How much internal storage will be available with this device?

9.) What type of processor and how much RAM/ROM will be used in the device?


That is all I can think of. I feel that these are the most burning questions to all of us at HoFo. I hope this provides a good summary of the outstanding information still needed. As always, if any insiders could provide a glimmer of insight (or just a straight up answer ), I and all of HoFo would be grateful.

Bill, there are some of us that are on ancient phones waiting to upgrade but not finding what we want yet. So you get a bit of anxiety running. The first 4"+ screen phone that I find that runs android 2.1+ and works well for either ATT or Verizon gets me. The Sony x10 sucks from what I hear, and isn't available other than full price from manufacture so it doesn't even count yet.

Shadow really sounds like a strong runner, but wish there was more informatio. If the Evo or a variant was on Verizon or ATT I would jump on it.

A lot of this stuff has been covered already, but here goes...

1) Most likely. Bill probably would have suggested otherwise if it wasn't the case
2) Probably will have MOTOBLUR. Now how will this affect OTA updates is unknown at this time...
3) Let's wait until that Google I/O conference occurs,no?
4) Yes, after all it was suggested that the phone is better than the HTC Incredible, so an FM radio is pretty much a given
5) ???
6) Again,???
7) Probably not, but then again it's possible
8) > 1GB for sure....
9) TI OMAP processor, it WILL be faster than the one currently found in the Droid.

None of these are specifics or definites. I am aware they have been "covered". However, none have been confirmed past a "probably". "Probably" or "most likely" is useless and subject to change. Therefore, all my points are still unknowns and need to be answered with a definite answer.

Arrrrgh.... I really like this phone, but it STILL doesn't have a front facing camera. I'm pretty convinced that's going to be a "must have" once people get used to them.

I never used facebook untill I got a smart phone....but the phone made it so easy that I started. Same deal with carrying a camera around, or a camcorder. A smartphone made all that stuff easy, so I actually use it. I'm somewhat convinced that most people don't use existing tech to do web video calls, because it's somewhat of a hastle... it's inconvenient. The moment it gets easy, by having a top 2 carrier, have a sufficient mass of people able to make (and receive) a video call quickly and easily, this element is going to be a lot more important. I love the look of this phone, and I've been hoping for a superphone with a good camera, a good keyboard, and a front camera. (and ofc the ability to play decent games and watch movies) I'm not willing to go beyond top 2 carriers because I need to be able to use the phone nationally... not just where I live. Shadow... give us a front camera! Please!

I'm thinking that the Shadow will have Blur, the Droid 2 won't. Kinda like how they did with the Droid and Devour.

Well that's depressing. I know you can turn it off (mostly) but still, I like to think of the Droid and Droid 2 as advertising Android... not advertising Blur on top of Android.

Well this phone sounds good let's hope it looks good. I'm kinda down on the processor its not that big of an upgrade from what I have. Why not a 4430 at least

No surprise there seeing as soon as one site posts something everyone else scatters and copies the same info. So what happen a bunch of bad details float around the web in a matter of no time.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Droid 2 and the Droid Pro are the same thing.

I wouldn't either but the droid2 seems like it will be eclipsed by the shadow and after this Droid I'm tired of physical keyboards

Your assuming the OMAP4430 could be in a phone by this time frame.
