    Nokia 5230 - Upgrade

I have a new 5230, bought in Singapore. It is currently running firmware version 10.0.071, custom version 10.0.071.C02.01

The phone is not locked; it accepts any SIM card and I see no sign of any operator-specific branding.

I am having trouble updating the phone. Ovi Suite tells me that there IS a new version available.. but when I update it, it says "your phone could not be detected. Please remove USB cable/battery " etc etc. Tried that and reinstalling Ovi multiple times, but no use.

Tried using Nokia Software Updater next.. that said there weren't any new versions available.

Maybe if I reflash to a non-custom firmware and then update.. How would I go about doing this? I would really appreciate it if anyone could guide me on how to proceed.

    Thanks!!

    Did you see this?

Here is a link to a discussion of exactly what you mention. I hope you find it useful. I went through the steps with my Nuron but had already updated to the newest T-Mobile firmware so it didn't work for me. But the programs all played nicely together and it would have worked if I had the out of box firmware when I tried it.

The key is to remember to load only firmware for your phone's type (i.e. RM-588, RM-593, RM-629) If you load, for example, RM-588 firmware onto a Type RM-593 device you will have something too light to be a paper weight, too small for a door stop and totally unusable as phone.
