    porting # to Tracfone

Last year when I ported a wireless number to Tracfone - the process went pretty smoothly - took a couple of days because I needed a new Sim card.

Now I am going to port my wireline Time Warner Cable phone number into Tracfone. I called Miami last week to start the process and they are sending a new Sim card.

CS and the ticket number status says the port could take up to 30 business days. I thought the process for this had become shorter.

Anyone have any recent experience on porting a landline/cable number to Tracfone? I'm going to wait for the Sim card and call them back to get an update.

    It's never easy, is it?

    Update:

I called to port the number last Wednesday.

When I hadn't received a new SIM card by yesterday, I called back. I was told the port was almost complete and that the SIM card would arrive yesterday or today.

I checked again today and they said the SIM card hadn't been sent out, but would be sent out today and I would get it tomorrow. After putting me on hold, he came back and said they didn't have one available right now - call back in an hour. Wha?

He said that they had to assign a specific SIM card number to me to complete the port. They can't just send any old SIM card out and then activate the port.

    Confusing

I am calling the Miami number, but seem to be getting the typical runaround.

    Thanks!

but too late. My landline stopped working last night. The good news is that my port is complete. The bad news is that the new SIM card is going out today, so I won't be able to activate the port until Monday!
If I put the new SIM card in and I have a problem - I will definitely Email Elston! I'll keep my fingers crossed!

    All is well

The SIM card came yesterday and I was able to activate the port immediately.

So - to answer my question - it took 8 days to port the line, plus 4 extra days to get the SIM card to get it to work!

The only problem now is that Time Warner Cable/Phone still shows the phone number as being active with them

Trying to resolve this through chat, because I hate calling them and would now have to use minutes!

Sorry to hear that. I ported my number from Verizon Wireless. Made the request on Friday and had the number ported on Monday.

I'm looking at getting my wife to choose a phone and move the Verizon account over...and I'm glad to hear that someone didn't have too much trouble...so I guess we'll port her number over.

Tough thing will be getting her to tell all that call her to use the MagicJack phone first, then her cell phone. Plus all the text messages she gets too from a couple of friends...

Since my number wasn't a wireless number, I knew it would probably take longer. This number has gone from a Verizon landline to ATT CallAdvantage, to SunRocket to Vonage, to Time Warner Cable to Tracfone (ATT service). It's been around the block! I think the shortest port was from Vonage to TWC.

Now that it is on a wireless network, I expect that the next port will be quicker - maybe. I think my next destination will be Page Plus, since I will be using more minutes. Now to research a new phone!
