Disable data on BB to avoid AT&T fees?

I'm using an unlocked T-Mobile branded Blackberry 8320 on AT&T. I'd like to use just the MMS portion of data since I have the unlimited family messaging plan, and I'd like to use WiFi for surfing the web and other WifI APPS.

What is the best way to do this besides blocking all data since blocking all data will disable MMS messaging?

Just have the pay per use data added and you MMS will work just fine. Since it isn't a branded At&t device (from your explanation) they won't require a $30 data feature unless you ask for it. There is no additional data charge but without it, MMS won't work.
If I'm annoyed and you're annoyed, does that make us a paranoid ??

Be careful, because BB's are prone to requesting bits of data here and there. At a minimum monitor your data usage on the website for awhile to be sure you're not using a few KB's a day without knowing.

For some BlackBerry models the Service Books for MMS have to be downloaded from the Research in Motion servers. These troubleshooting steps are from the AT&T Wireless Forums:
If unable to send or receive an MMS
1.Verify the MMS size is below the 600KB supported maximum for the RIM BlackBerry Curve 8320.
2.Verify the firewall settings are not configured to block incoming MMS messages.
3.Verify the the device can connect to MEdia Net.
4.Register the device on the network.
5.Verify the following service books are present on the device.
    •MMS Transport [WPTCP]
    •MMS Client [MMS]
6.If these service books are not present:
•Register the device on the network for users with a RIM BlackBerry data rate plan.
•Perform a Master Reset (Wipe Handheld) for users who do not have a RIM BlackBerry data rate plan.
7.If needed, check for device issues and error messages.
