What would be a "GOOD" change for you? VM has indicated that there will be changes at all levels of their service. What would be "BAD" change?
No more $5/month service.
Raising the per-minute rate and per SMS/MMS rate for subs not on a plan.
Anything that makes the service more expensive for light usage is bad, IMO.

This might be a small preview of the new basic rate that will arrive at VM. 10cents per minute down from the current 20cent basic rate.
10 cent basic rate,
Round down minutes,
New Unlimited options,
All this would be Good News, yes?
Subscribers of the cellphone service, currently available to qualifying customers in New York, Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee, will now pay only 10 cents for each additional domestic minute instead of 20 cents per additional minute after exceeding the 200 minutes included with the plan.

10 cent basic plan will be good only if they keep the 90 day expiration. Note I am not an assurance customer either.

+1 on this. If my $5/month service ever goes away, both my wife and I will probably leave VM. It's the major factor we've both been on VM for so long. (Me=7 years, her about 5-6 years)
According to Hofo Vmobi, VM is set to do some big things later this month. All the dumping of older stock phones at dirt cheap prices at most of their biggest retailers does indicate something is up. Even their Rumor 2 is down to $80 on VM's site online.
Boost cdma is getting all the attention with the first really affordable unlimited prepaid Blackberry plan (besides Metro's). I wonder when VM is due to get theirs? 2009 was the year of Boost iden. Boost cdma is being revitalized after twelve months of neglect. VM needs some push too.

They sure are up to something. The Sprint acquisition just finalized last quarter and with the reintroduction of Boost cdma, along with the other prepaid services developments, Sprints new prepaid group has been very active. The success of the Virgin Mobile USA brand has been due to Dan Schulman and the team now directing Sprint's prepaid service group, they are not about to abandon or forget Virgin Mobile. I think we are about to see VM refresh their entire device line-up. If additional new VM value service brands are introduced then VM may move to focus on monthly plan customers as they had indicated prior to the Sprint acquisition. Assurance Wireless fits well as a VM brand (Virgin Unite the Virgin Group's charitable arm has and continues to help those less fortunate; including helping launch the Re*Generation along with other VM USA initiatives). VM directors had already indicated they might pursue a multi-brand approach to acquire a greater share of the growing prepaid wireless sector. They also expressed their desire to grow their prepaid monthly subscriber numbers with the addition of advanced devices to their model line up. The new focus for VM would be on acquiring more high value monthly subscribers not necessarily the acquisition of large quantities of low usage subscribers. VM will definitely need to lower their basic service rates to counter the price adjustments from the TRACfone brands and T-Mobile, while at the same time introduce a much improved selection of devices and new service options if they expect to outperform their prepaid competitors. Even at&t's GOphone service has better data options than VM at this time.

if your saying assurance Wireless is a good name to replace virgin mobile...so not true while it might speak to ppl it sounds like a cheap ghetto network with crappy phones, IMO.

Just for info. Assurance wireless is a lifeline program for mainly the state of New York. They provide 200 minutes a month for for free for low income and/or disabled.

Assurance fits well with the VM brand, affordable rates: Free service for those less fortunate, etc. It's not to replace VM it's an additional sub-brand of VM. Cheap, yes. Ghetto - might work in many of those places too since it is a nationwide service. Crappy phones - IMO the Jax is a much better basic device than some of the previous entry level phones from VM and other carriers as well. BTW this is the same phone CricKet was retailing for $99 (Melo S1300).
