    Block all Unknown/Private/Out-of-area Callers

Is there any way of doing this?

I really hate telemarketers and they all fail to abide by the Do-Not-Call List. So is there a way of blocking these numbers without having to buy a weird device off the net?

And private institutions like hospitals or any family calling me is not an issue. If it helps, this is for a Canadian home. Thank you!

The thing is most of my family doesn't use the computer, and I want to be able to answer calls through my landline phone. Thanks though.

see if your provider offers "Anonymous Call Blocking" and/or "Selective Call Blocking".

anonymous call blocking will reject all calls with a blocked caller id.

Call privacy with Bell...it's an optional pay feature and you can block whoever whenever you want.

Would any of the features from my provider here cut it? http://www.teksavvy.com/en/nhomephon...asp?ID=7&mID=1

Remember, I want absolutely no calls from out of Canada, no private callers, no calls without a ph #, and lastly no out of area calls.

    Thanks!

I can't get a service that only blocks selective numbers because most telemarketers mask their numbers.

However that wouldn't include all international calls (the ones with a #), and private callers (according to their more detailed guide).

Perhaps is there another solution to avoid telemarketers? Most of them are Indians trying to sell a service, and I'm Indian too.

common sense? i am assuming you have caller id, don't answer the calls from unknown area codes.

But its a nuisance having to hear the phone ring multiple times a day. And if no one picks up, they call once or twice again to make sure no one is there.

Is there any software that can be connected to the phone line that would help? Like it would allow me to use to landline phones but one jack could be connected to the PC.

I'm guessing I'm out of luck but it's worth a shot.

answer the phone an politely say "can you please remove me from your internal calling list".

the first month or two will be a pain but it does the trick.

That's exactly what I say. "I'm on the National DNC List. It's illegal for you to call me. Please add me to your DNC list." A week later, I get called from them again and ask them why I was recalled and they just apologize and assure me it won't happen again.

I'm not the only person from the area who gets calls from these exact companies, they just don't follow the rules.

have not had any problems myself with telemarkets.
i have actually removed my number from the DNCL and noticed a DECREASE in the number of calls.

another thing to do is to make your number unlisted.
telus makes you pay for an unlisted number, but it is free with shaw.
