Hey, I am Canadian and I am pretty sure you can not get the Android Dev Phone 1 in Canada, but this is the phone I truly want.
I have a plan to buy the Android Dev Phone 1 in the U.S. and have it dropped off at my friends place who also lives in the U.S. so I do not have to pay for shipping (Its free to all residents of the U.S.) but the one thing I am worried about is my plan.
I am currently with TELUS and I don't really want to switch providers, but if I have to, thats alright aswell.
I was wondering what kind of plan do I need for the Android Dev Phone, anyway?
Please take into consideration I will have to activate it and everything, and I have never used an Android before, and I am not on a 3g plan with TELUS.
AFAIK the only android dev phone out right now is the G1. The one that Google ships out comes with T-Mobile bands so it will not work on Telus.
You can get Edge on Rogers or full 3G on Wind.
Depending on what you want to do(i.e. internet/data) you'll have to pick up a data plan, pretty much anything but a blackberry data plan.
Since you are buying the G1 outright you don't need to sign a 3 year term but I don't think Rogers offers anything decent month to month so if you go with Rogers you should sign a 1 year contract.
If you're in Toronto or other Wind cities Wind is probably your best option.
Is there a reason you want a dev phone? Wouldn't an unlocked Dream be the same thing?
There's also the HTC Hero from Telus, which is one of the best Android phones in the Canadian market. I don't see why you can't use the HTC Hero to do development work.
