I've tried every different vcard option in bitpim, but the card will not read the vcards on the microSD card.

I just recently got the Convoy U640 as well, and the very first thing I did with it was put my own custom ringtones on it via the included USB wire.
It took my quite some time to figure out how, what software, and the procedure to use, so bear with me here.
The laptop I hooked up to do this on is a
Dell Inspiron 1720 core 2 duo
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
4gb RAM
Programs used
Latest version of Bitpim
Samsung Convoy USB Driver
I'm not sure if this is required to make this work or not, but I do have it installed, so I'm going to list it anyway.
Verizon Access Manager-> Win 7 -> Wireless handset -> Samsung handset -> My phone #
First and foremost, I do NOT know how to do this one any other OS than Windows 7, just putting that out there.
Procedure used
First, I set up my phone's USB mode to "Ask on Plugin".
Plug it in for the first time, and select MODEM MODE
For me, Windows attempted installing three generic drivers. One of them succeeded, the other two failed to install.
I opened the device manager, and saw I had two devices with the (!) next to them, under either Modems or COM ports, I forget which they were listed as. My phone was also listed a third time (by name) somewhere else in the device manager.
Anyway, remember these drivers I listed? This is the time to use them.
In the device manager, right click on the devices marked with (!) and select UPDATE DRIVER SOFTWARE.
Select BROWSE MY COMPUTER FOR DRIVER SOFTWARE
LET ME PICK FROM A LIST OF DEVICE DRIVERS ON MY COMPUTER
Select MODEM
Press the "HAVE DISK" button
Navigate to the folder you put the drivers in (you need to unpack the .rar file they come in), and try one of the drivers.
DO THIS FOR ALL THE DEVICES, USING THE SAME DRIVER EACH TIME!
If the driver you picked doesn't work, go back to device manager and try a different one.
Now, I'm not sure which driver out of that pack will work for you (for me it was the one labeled ' sscdsdm2 ' ).
My phone now shows up in the device manager when connected under
MODEMS
as Samsung Mobile Modem #3
Ports (COM & LPT)
SAMSUNG Mobile Modem Diagnostic Serial Port (WDM) (COM3)
From here, with my phone connected with the USB cable, and in MODEM MODE
I was able to connect to it with BitPim on COM3, by setting BitPim to the SCH-U750 (Alias 2) phone, COM port set to 3.
FOR RINGTONES
View the filesytem of the phone via Bitpim.
Notice how Verizon are a bunch of ***holes and denied us access to the Ringtones folder.
Since we can't get into this folder, there is a walk-around that works just as good.
We can put the ringtones in the SOUNDS folder, and still be able to use them as tones.
Put your Mp3's in that folder, click Write to Phone, let it copy, and reboot the phone. You're golden.
Your tones will appear under "Sounds" on the phone.
To set them as ringtones, highlight the tone on the phone, select 'Set as', Contact ID, and pick who you want that tone to be for.
I hope this helps at least 1 person out, it was a nightmare for me to figure this out myself.
I've tried every different vcard option in bitpim, but the card will not read the vcards on the microSD card.
There's always free cheese in a mousetrap.
Thanks for that driver link! The phone did not come with a CD... I'll try it again with USB instead of bluetooth and maybe ringtones will work now...

I am then able to view the file system and copy the mp3 file. I then reboot the phone but when I go into the phone to set my mp3 as a ring tone it is not there even though bitpim file system says it is. Any idea what I may be doing wrong? I have the SCH-U640.
Thanks.
You must edit he msinfo.db and change the last zero of your line to a 5 example.
toCode:/ff/brew/mod/18067/Ghostbusters.mp3|0|0 /ff/brew/mod/18067/0521101135.qcp|0|7
Then reboot the phone, and it will be there.Code:/ff/brew/mod/18067/Ghostbusters.mp3|0|5 /ff/brew/mod/18067/0521101135.qcp|0|7

The above method puts them in the Sounds folder, not the ringtones folder.
If you want them to show up under the Ringtones menu, Use this as a guide.
You can do exactly the same thing as that guide explains with BitPim.
View the filesystem with Bitpim
Copy your files to the Brew/Mod/mr directory
Reboot the phone
Reconnect with BitPim
Copy MrInfo.db OFF the phone, open it with notepad
Change the numbers from |0|0 to |0|3 (use the find & replace command in notepad, make life easier)
Delete the original MrInfo.db off the phone
Copy your edited version back into the Brew/Mod/Mr folder on the phone
Reboot phone, and check under "My Ringtones" for your new tones.
All,
I still have trouble connecting my convoy. I follow all the steps listed and I can see the modem port as COM6 in my DEVICE MANAGER. However, when I do a DETECT PHONE in BITPIM, it keeps saying phone not detected. The phone is set to modem mode, and I have tried both U750 and other CDMA options in Bitpim.
Any idea? Thanks
Thanks Everyone. I now have it working![]()

I just have to be careful as this is a company cell so I did not want to get too carried away.![]()
I am having the exact same problem. Anyone willing to help us out here?
Thanks to two postings by Anubis62118 we now have a straightforward, if somewhat tedious (thanks Verizon), method to add any mp3 file as a My Ringtone or My Sound using a USB connection to the Samsung Convoy.
To summarize and slightly elaborate on Anubis62118's approach, which I have reproduced on an XP machine:
0. Prepare a short (say 20 sec) mp3 file for use as a ringtone using Audacity or equivalent
1. Connect phone via USB to the computer
2. Select Modem Mode on the phone
3. Open Bitpim, select phone type SCH-U750 (Alias 2) from Edit/Settings, OK.
4. Phone should be recognized by Bitpim as "manually set" with yellow dot in lower right of window
5. In Bitpim left pane, scroll down to highlight "Filesystem". Then in central pane, click on the expansion box (+)/. Bitpim should say "Retrieving..." Wait several seconds for directory to appear.
6. Open file folder brew/mod/mr. This is the My Ringtones folder. If you want to put an mp3 file into My Sounds rather than My Ringtones, use directory 18067 instead of directory mr
7. Copy (by dragging) the new ringtone mp3 file to this subdirectory in Bitpim and wait for Bitpim to finish the write process (as shown at bottom left of Bitpim window)
8. Exit Bitpim using the File Menu
9. Turn the phone off and then back on (no need to detach from computer).
10. Repeat steps 3 (but Bitpim remembers phone type), 4, 5, 6
11. Copy the file MrInfo.db to the desktop (right click, Save). If you are working in the My Sounds folder then this file is MsInfo.db
12 revised. Edit that file using Notepad. It should contain an entry for the new ringtone or sound! Change the last digit in the new entry from 0 to 3 for a ringtone or from 0 to 5 for a sound. Example, adding paul tripp rainbow.mp3 as a ringtone:
Before: /ff/brew/mod/mr/paul tripp rainbow.mp3|0|0
After: /ff/brew/mod/mr/paul tripp rainbow.mp3|0|3
13. Close the revised MrInfo.db (or MsInfo.db) file on the desktop.
14. In Bitpim delete the original MrInfo.db (or MsInfo.db) file from the phone by highlighting file/right click/Delete
15. Drag the revised MrInfo.db (or MsInfo.db) from the desktop to the phone in Bitpim. Wait for write to complete
16. Exit Bitpim using the File menu
17. Detach the phone from the computer, turn the phone off and then back on
18. The new ringtone is now available on the phone. One way to access it is Menu/5/1/3
Note: Several ringtones may be added at once by repeating steps 7 and 12 in the obvious way.

I don't have the option to "view file system"
you aint understanding me. I dont have that Filesystem option AT ALL
When I do item 11 (On phone type - scroll down to SCH-U750 (Alias 2) and select it)...my version of BitPim (1.0.7.20090303)...doesn't have a 'SCH-U750'...the scroll down options has a lot of phone types...but after 'SCH-U740' the next type is 'SCP-200'.
Can you help me with finding the 'SCH-U750' phone type ???![]()
