    HTC Nexus One data issues

    I've been trying to get data to work with my nexus one on a fido pay as you go plan. Although the nexus one does not share fido's 3g frequencies, I should still be able to use edge.

    I am currently using the following settings (from http://www.howardforums.com/showthre...&highlight=apn)

    * Name: Fido Internet
    * APN: internet.fido.ca
    * Proxy: 205.151.11.11
    * Port: 8080
    * Username: fido
    * Password: fido
    * Server: <blank>
    * MMSC: http://mms.fido.ca
    * MMS Proxy: 205.151.11.13
    * MMS Port: <blank>
    * MMS Protocol: Wap 2.0 -- I'm not able to set this, but I don't need MMS.
    * MCC: 302
    * MNC: 370
    * APN type: <blank>

    When opening my phones browser I get the message "You: have attempted to use a data application without a data plan. For options, click here http://fido.ca/m/smarphonedp/0/i "

    I click on that link and the browser freezes on the site. I tried accessing in over wifi and I got a message that the page could not be accessed over wifi because they could not authenticate my phone that way.

    Any suggestions? Fido representatives have said that I should be able to get a day pass with pay as you go.

    Thanks for any assistance with this.

    try to use "fido-core-appl1.apn" or "internet.fido.ca" as your apn with no proxy and it should work

    If it doesn't you could try to use another fido phone.. activate the day pass on that and then try to see if your nexus one could access fido's network?

    Try removing the proxy.

    android loves fido

    Android and fido work fine. If you only get edge its because your phone doesn't have the right bands. To setup an APN in android only use these settings in the APN settings page.

    APN name: whatever you want
    APN: internet.fido.ca
    Username: fido
    Password: fido

    Leave everything else the way it is when you create the new APN.

    Yep. I've got an HTC Hero working working just fine on Fido. 3G/HSPA all A-OK.

    My Nexus One is working just fine on Fido. I added the $25/500 MB data plan the night before I first put my SIM in.

    Create two APNs. The first is as described above, just internet.fido.ca and user/pass fido/fido. Absolutely nothing else. The 302/370 should go in automatically.

    Second APN: Call it "Fido MMS" or such.
    APN: mms.fido.ca
    skip down to MMSC: http://mms.fido.ca
    MMS proxy: 205.151.011.013
    skip down to APN type: mms

    The first one is the one to connect to all the time and you will have a green dot there. Has worked for me for a month. A friend sent me a test MMS and it came through properly.

    Also you may be able to save some battery life by selecting 2G networks only since we can't get 3G on this with Fido. Furthermore you can force it to only use relevant frequencies:
    In Dialer enter *#*#4636#*#*
    Tap Phone Information, scroll down
    Set preferred network type: GSM only
    Menu key, select radio band, USA Band

    Hope this helps Let me know if you have any other troubles.

    I think the issue is that I have pay as you go and am unable to add a data package in the store (or on the web page). It should load their site from the phone so I can get data day passes, but it isn't .

    Thank's for everyone's help anyway.

    Hey, I am the sales rep you talked to at the store when you came in. You'll have a PM with my email address.

    Hey this might be a stupid question but after you put in the apn and clicked the menu key and saved it... did you click the circle on the left side of the apn you created.... it doesn't automatically select it and also did you try to select the data roaming option? Some android phones on fido must have roaming selected or it won't connect to Fidos data network

    I disabled data roaming and EDGE still works. I did click the circle (on the right side in fact) to activate the APN. The phone seems to be aware that I'm on my home provider.

    Hi everyone.

    Everything works fine with given Fido APN settings for the Google Nexus One. However, although I noticed a 'E' icon on the top menu bar, the browser won't take me to that link previously received as SMS to activate a data plan.

    My question: can this be done throgh the phone (if so, how?) or do I have to go to / call Fido Customer Service?

    Grateful for any answer. Cheers.

    When I activated my data plan on Fido I did it entirely over the phone *611 and then they told me it'd be active at midnight. Didn't attempt to do so on-device for fear I'd get an extra charge for using data without a plan.

    Yeah, now you need a 'plan' to do anything. Anyhow, sounds good. I'm just a bit surprised they don't let you do that, free of charge, similar to how internet providers (i.e. acces points at airports etc.)just pipe you through one web page only. --Thanks.

    In theory they try to but Fido seems to have a lot of trouble authenticating unlocked non-Fido phones on their mobile site over their data network. For example if I try going to rogers.mobi while on EDGE, it brings me to Fido's My Account page but it doesn't know who I am and can't show me anything about my account.
