Sort of- the Japanese abbreviation for what Sharp does is "EMS" which means that they provide designs and such to a local firm to do the actual hardware/software work with. MTK refers to the hardware/software system used by the local firm employed by Sharp, that also happens to be used by lots of cheap copy phone makers (just about every fake iPhone runs on this system). It's also not particularly powerful, so don't expect to do much with it. Hardware-wise it's not going to be up to a "original" Sharp. Your one guarantee is that it's factory-unlocked.
BTW- The Nikkei article I linked to makes for interesting reading. (I didn't know that 70% of the Chinese mobile phone market was phones under 1000RMB until that article) Seems that the use of MTK (via the EMS maker) is to be "more competitive price-wise in the Chinese market" while they plan to continue selling "original" devices (for the high end?). Whether this means they'll stretch the SH9010C/9020C/0902C/1810C until who-knows when or they'll push out something new... who knows. Also, Sharp sends out people to the factories to "ensure quality".
do not sacrifice good screen and good software for the solar phone, it is not practically to pay so much for that function which might not be using on a day to day basis! I have the 9020c and it is amazing!
It was really a nice experience to read out from here because all the posts are interesting to read out and conating very useful information for the readers as well.

I think that if you want a solar panel buy a seperate keitai solar panel strap. I have one and it works well when I am at the beach and left my charger at home and no charger in my car.
