    W705 vs. C510 vs. T715

I'm looking into getting one of these phones for back-up / travelling phone.

I am mainly concerned about the following in this order:

    Call Quality
    Battery Life
UI Stability (lagging, sudden reboots, glitches, etc)
    Build Quality

I've heard that the call quality on the W705 seems a little muffled and/or picks up a lot of static/external noise, can anyone confirm?

I'm leaning towards the C510, but wanted more opinion on the other two models.

Let me know your experiences! THANKS!

    What is a cell phone?

I have not used T715 so I can't comment on that one. Between the C510 and W705, C510 has better sound and build quality. Battery life is about the same. I always flash phones to the latest firmware for stability. There is one thing to consider. W705 has Wi-Fi. It comes in handy when I travel out of the country and need Internet access.

    I've only used the W705.

Call quality seems good, I don't notice any degradation during calls.

Battery life is awesome on 2G mode, I usually get one week out of it before I need to charge.

UI has been very stable. No crashes, but sometimes laggy when disconnecting WiFi or exiting an application... not always, but when it gets stuck, it will take about 5-10 seconds to unfreeze.

Build quality is good as long as you don't drop the phone

I'm sure you know the main difference between C510 and W705 are that the camera is better on C510, and W705 has WiFi.

Do you switch to just 2G by selecting "gsm only?" Do you notice a big difference on 2G?

Yes, that's how I switch to 2G only.
At first, the 2G voice calls seemed better, but now they're about equal. I can't tell the difference at all.

Good to know. This doesn't affect your bill at all right?

That's right, no effect on any billing.

    Sheytoon,

If I could ask you one more question...

I see there is this "phone protection" thing, but it doesn't really seem to do much. Maybe there is just something off with my phone? But I was wondering if there is a way to password lock my phone. When I do the protection or locks, it doesn't really seem to lock the phone. I can still fully access everything. I want to be able to lock my phone and set it down and know that nobody can get past the first screen. Is that possible?

Thanks for your help with the 3g stuff.

You're right. The regular "keylock" is only there to disable the keys so that when the phone is in your pocket, you don't accidentally make calls or launch applications unexpectedly.

There is a "phone protection" lock, which asks for a password, but this is only when you power on your phone, so it's not too useful for your needs.

I don't know of any way of putting a password on the keylock. I know BlackBerries have this, but I've never seen it on a SE phone. Hope you find one!

Ah... that's too bad. Yeah my last Samsung phone had it. It was very useful.

So I'm thinking of buying the C510 (for my parents) and I was wondering, what class of HSPA does the phone have?
http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_ericsson_c510-2640.php <- not much help since it only says the phone has HSDPA,HSUPA with no listed max speed. As usual SE's site does not go into specifics like that.

According to Rogers, the C510 is capable of 7.2Mbps.
