There's really not much you can do. The battery life on that phone just genuinely sucks. lol.
Try not to keep your phone charging longer than it needs to. If the bars are full and you continue to charge your phone it will start to drip-charge. This means that the phone continues charging slowly, wasting away your battery life in the long run. I had this phone and when I got it the battery life lasted a good eight hours or so if I didn't use it very much, but then I would always put it on the charger before falling asleep and in a matter of a couple months I had to charge it almost every hour without really using the phone.
It also helps keeping an extra battery around for the G1 just in case you do use it a lot. Afterall, there are a lot of fun apps. Hope that helps.
What are your expectations for the battery? I knew going in that I would have to find another battery so I purchased an extended life battery (1400mah) and I have downloaded both the TasKiller and Power Manager apps. They have done a pretty good job of keeping my phone running all day and sometimes depending on how much im using it, into a second day.

Where did you get your extended life battery? T-Mobile and HTC don't have one, and HTC told me that if I buy one on eBay, it may get too hot and fry the Motherboard....Thanks.
