Yes you can hear the other caller quite clearly. Overall the speakerfone is quite good on the s55/56. There has been alot of various info and views that have been posted on it before. Do a search and you should find the threads.

I sometimes make calls right next to a heliport near my office. Man I tell ya, those things are noisy! Have handsfree, will talk.

The speakerphone is decent. But I can't use it much cause it's not loud enough, and the person on the other side says there is a significant drop in quality. But overall, if you have to use the speakerphone function, it'll do.

    S56 Speakerphone volume

I just returned a Nokia 6200 and got a S56. The S56 speakerphone, I think, is virtually useless. Maybe in a very quiet surrounding I might be able to hear my voicemails. I wouldn't even consider using it for a live conversation.

The the volume overall is way too low. I just tested a Nokia 6310i and I have to turn the volume down two notches to reach a comfortable volume.

    Great phone, poor volume overall.

Gee, I just used one to have someone participate in a conference call with 7 people today. Put on the speaker-phone, put the phone on the table and it worked fine. It wasn't super loud, but noone complained about the sound.

Wow I am surprised to hear that. I have always found the speakerfone to be quite good.

    S56 Speakerphone volume

I am encouraged to hear that others have had positive results with their S56. I think I will make a trip down to the AT&T store tomorrow to compare mine against the store model. Maybe I got a problem unit.

    Thanks!
