Ringtone needs to be 100kb and under for sharp keitais and must be in a mld format. try using the guides that are stickied here (I used them to create my own).

    Grapevine news

There seem to be a lot of keitai users that don't seem to post very much...? I wonder why that is?

You have great phones, it'd be nice if we could get a big more of a community going like back in the 903SH days

Hi Martine, I am sure a lot of people like to post things. I have a zilion questions about the Sharp SH-01B. I am not so young but bought this keita because I just love it...using it to it's full use is very different. So I am struggling to send messages to my friends or to add a new telephone number into my keitai....Am I really so stupid? I guess that I can learn from it. I was so happy I could find thanks to this forum how to be able to send messages out...I have no English manual and so all goes by trial and error. I keep on reading this forum

    You aren't stupid at all!

The only way we all learn is through communication! The lack of English manuals means that it is imperative for us, as a community, to keep talking to each other and sharing the news and fun things we find with our new phones

I've been here for many years now and really enjoy the excitement that builds from a new SHARP phone on the scene

Welcome, and don't be scared to post! You can even just post a photo!

What is the quickest way to write messages

I find it difficult to compile text messages on my SH-01B, I found out that you need the 5 touch mode and switch all the time to the entry mode you need. What is the quickest way to add a new tel # to the Sharp SH-01B?
First I am trying to use the tel to make calls and to send messages before I experiment downloading ring tunes, movies etc...
I need to download the driver, I have the original Japanese disk but I can't read Japanese...how to download the driver? Some people told me that now you do need anymore a hypersim card, they have the software now and do not need anymore a hypersim card, is that correct? What is the best hypersimcard..Inex? here we have hypersimcards, red ones and green one's...all copies in Vietnam, I guess.

I would like to thank you for your kind advice. I have been reading the threads but I am still confused. I would appreciate if you could tell me what kaitei is versus cell phone. I wish I could figure out how to use it to the maximum but here in Vietnam I can only make calls with it and reply to cell phone messages. What else can I do with it? I mean besides making pics and the normal features smart phones can do.
NTT DoCoMo is not represented in this country so I guess that cuts out a lot of the features. 3G is not working properly and internet, downloading is pure luck.

That's it. Read the sticky's mate.

You've bought a phone that uses a hypersim. It allows you to call and SMS. Take pictures too. That's it, nothing more you can do.

People usually refer to keitai to mean Japanese handset; so it's different only to a normal cell phone because of that. Typically other cell phones can be unlocked somehow - keitais usually only be unlocked with hypersims. This is the difference.

Please read the stickies - there's lots of good information there.

my SH-01B can't make calls or send messages out

Hello, here we go again...I am using my SH-01B only at home because doing all the time doing CPR drives me nuts...however after 4 weeks I lost surprisingly the signal at home, did CPR with my other phone and got the signal back. I called and was able to receive calls and messages on my SH-01B but I can't make calls out or sending messages out. I have put the number of Vinaphone in international with in front the"+" but still can't make calls out or send messages out. When I dial a number it is dailing for 2 sec...and then a sign of a handphone set appears with a press sign?? Any idea why I can't make going out calls?? so frustrating I did read the threads - I am not a genius in phones

Thank you for the info. I've been trying to figure out for 6 hours why I can't make calls out or send messages out after CPR ( lost the signal after recharging the battery ) but without success or a solution. I have the letters GPC printed on the left side of my SH-01B screen....what does GPC mean??? and the mail settings still hv the number of the center +8491020005 ( Vinaphone) ...so I am lost why I can't send out msm or make calls...but receiving is no problem...I even can dial a number is shows dialling but after 3 sec..on the left corner of the screen it shows a phone and the words PRESS ??then the screen returns to original display and the words GPC appear. Do you think it might be a problem with the hypersimcard? or that the settings are incorrect? Any help is very welcome here.

Unable to send messages or calls

    Hi Singo,

Thank you for your speedy reply. I appreciated that. Meanwhile this mystery has been solved...unbelievable but true ! After breaking our heads about this problem it has come to light that the service provider VINAPHONE did cut the signal for non payment of the monthly bill although it was paid, so an error from the service provider. That has been rectified now and the keitai works 100%.
About receiving a signal. I want to buy the Sharp SH-04B ( a 3G phone and no GSM ) but I have been told that it will not work in Vietnam because the sytem works on W-CDMA and not on cdma-gsm. In VN there is no W-CDMA but 'normal' phones can make 3G calls. Is there no other way to get that phone working here? They told me that the N-01B in VN has the same problems like the SH-01B with signal cuts and that CPR is part of the fun. The N-01B looks cool man ! Any input?
