The new jailbreak is less than 24 hr old at the point of responding.

Yes, you can unlock/JB everything phone, every bootrom etc. And you can unlock as well. (not sure if the iphone 4 unlock is out yet but if not today then by tomorrow ultrasn0w will be updated for the iphone 4 too).
The only thing not jb/unlocked is the 4.1 beta firmwares. That's it.
use jailbreakme.com to jailbreak 4.0+, ultrasn0w for unlock.

correct check the site, if you goto the store right now you can jailbreak + unlock any ipad / iphone in the store

Since you are not jailbroken yet you don't your SHSH blobs saved with Cydia. If you didn't save your SHSH blobs with tiny umbrella instead -> then as far as I can tell you can not go to anything higher than 3.0, unless you go to 4.1 which can't be jailbroken yet. You have to stay at 3.0 and use jailbreakme.com to jailbreak and then install Ultrasn0w from Cydia to unlock.

I think I read somewhere that IF you have a really really old i.e. very early model 3GS you might be able to use PWNagewTool 4.01 and jailbreak a 4.01 ipsw file and install it by using iTunes restore with the option key to select the jailbroken OS.

hey buddy thanks for ur help the past time i need 1 more more useful answer from u i have a ipod touch 2g on fimrware 4.0.2 and its the mc model is there anything out there 2 jail break it yet cuz i keep trying to downgrade firmware but i get an error saying it was unable to restore with fimrware 4.0 so if u can help im ill greatly appreaciate it.
