I was under the impression that the price someone pays for a phone when starting new service is typically amounts to the best available discount pricing. And that the NE2 deal provides similarly good pricing for existing customers based on an interval. So if you are getting NE2 pricing, then you should be good to go.

Are you saying you don't like the NE2 pricing on this phone? Not much you can do about that except wait for an eventual price drop.

I ordered mine when they first became available and had a $100 NE2 discount available and also signed up for the PTT service and received the $30 discount as well. I got mine for $249-$100 NE2-$30 PTT discount = $119.99

I've also returned mine after experiencing very poor battery life but loved the phone itself.

uh yeah dude, no price point is preferable to FREE! this phone, (aside from ruggedness) is the same as an EnV 3 for features, and those are free now.

Ruggedness just means to me hopefully it will last the whole 2 years that the others are SUPPOSED to. (and I'm not THAT rough on my phones)

It is, however, an incredible looking phone and I suppose I may get one when and if they allow application of NE2 or upgrade benefits. I was a little disappointed that I did not take one home.

I'm having trouble locating them outside of verizon owned stores.
and yeah, the data plan is gay, and sadly here to stay. I'm biting the bullet, getting this one last upgrade, eating 240 over 2 years and then my other two phones on my 3 person fam plan will be up about 4 months before mine (with the brigade) is up in 2012, they will wait the 4 months for mine to end, and We'll all go to Sprint probably.

I'm concerned they may go end of life before they hit the free spot on the price... go online and the rock/boulder is still a pay to buy phone even though its quite old.

I picked up an EnV3 before the mandatory data plan and love it. I am not a power user, just text and calls, and hardly text. But having the keyboard means I can reply without having to find my glasses.

I wanted a rugged phone, because I am in construction, but realized I take care of my phones. My old Casio never got a scratch on it. Heck, I see guys with iPhones on job sites, just have to take care of your possessions and they seem to last. I did want a Brigade, but have zero use for the data plan as of now. We'll see when my contract is up what is available then.

Well sir, We'll see what happens when your phone is 18 months old and your P key on the Qwerty pad either sticks or needs to be MASHED to respond.

Thats my problem, except p is only the worst offender, not the only one.

every phone I've had the keypad has worn out before the contract was up... they just dont seem to be made for prolonged use.

Considering the Rock is still $149.99 with a 2/year contract I doubt this phone will be free any time soon.

size is not an issue for me, this wil be a personal preference obviously.

the issue I was worried about was it fitting in the pocket of my duty pants and it fits well.

the other UP side to it being larger is the qwerty key pad is larger and easier to use, my son has an env3 and the keypad is so small i hit 2 or 3 buttons just trying to hit one.

when I an wearing normal street clothes I got a a very nice belt clip that works great from cellphoneshop.net. got 3 shipped in for less than 10.00

I concur with your observations of the Brigade. I ordered 3 of those belt clips from the cellphoneshop myself and have found them to be the perfect. The bonus is that the phone is clipped with the display facing the body as opposed to facing outward where it can be damaged.
