So you can't read a coverage map and that's Wind's problem? You didn't buy a phone from Wind and you're complaining they don't support it? Try that with Rogers or Bell or Telus and see what they tell you. Heck, Rogers actively discriminates against foreign IMEIs.

Read their FAQ - WIND is saying "come to us with your unlocked phone". And then they have no coverage in parts of the City. That is deceiving.

And yes, if I would want to compare WIND with the rest, i wouldn't have gone there and ask for their business IN THE FIRST PLACE! Okay?!

Yeah in all honesty, there's nothing in WIND that suggests you can't use a non-supported(retail) device...

Likewise I know plenty of people with oddball GSM handsets on Fido who are doing fine... so the whole network compatibility issue is bunk... BUT: I still recommend you ditch WIND and go elsewhere...

There are a lot of Handsets that work on WIND you just need to make sure the fequencies match. That list with the phones from Pacific Mall should have most of them covered.

Did you read his issues? Even if he HAD A WIND HANDSET he wouldn't have coverage... the coverage isn't THERE... period...

Problem is, I'm stuck with the phone now (Google Nexus One), and would like your help in finding a solution.

Now, although the handset should also work on a 2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900, the phone complains there is no SIM card when I insert one from my current FIDO w800i. What do you propose I try next?

I'll buy your phone for $1. N1 works for my Fido sim. It's a non-3G sim as well.

your Nexus One works with WIND'S Network, and isnt offered by them...So i doubt you will see Wind Home and Wind Away or get full use out of the Nexus One

Wind Can definitely improve there coverage/ but dont expect them to help you with your phone which isnt officially supported by WIND

How is it deceiving? They aren't saying every unlocked phone will work with Wind. They are just saying you are allowed to use an unlocked phone with Wind, something that the Big 3 don't support. Reading anything more into the statement is just delusional.

As for having no coverage in parts of the city. Again, the onus is on you to check the map. I haven't seen any ads where they claim to cover every inch of any city. They merely say check the coverage maps. If you were in a Wind Home Zone and didn't get reception that would be something else. Suggesting they are being deceptive because they say the cover Calgary but don't cover the sliver you live in is ridiculous.

Consider Toronto for example. How do you define Toronto? Is it just the 416? Is it just the suburbs bordering Toronto? Or would you consider Toronto to include all areas that GO services (which includes Hamilton, Niagara Falls, Barrie, Bowmanville and Peterborough). If they said they covered Toronto and it was just the 416 and you lived in Barrie, are they lying?

Then have some patience, geez. They will get to your neck of the woods in due course. As for supporting your Nexus One, good luck with that. They won't offer support for it. And neither will any other carrier (legacy or new entrant). They aren't going to support phones they don't sell.
