    Error message

The only time I get a error message is if I do not have the area code first, I even had to go in and delete the original message to make sure.

I also have an unlocked Motorola Milestone (previously Telus) and am using it on Rogers. I have pretty much the same problem as the OP, except I can't text anyone. I can receive text justs fine, as well as send MMS, surf the web and use other data apps.

    This is what I've tried:

    - Replying to a text I've received
    - Sending a text from the address book
    - Entering a phone number manually, with area code as well as with a 1 and a +1
    - Restarting my phone (including taking the battery out for a few minutes)
    - Sending when connected to Wifi and when not

I've only had the phone a few days and I did have to set up my APN to get data working, could there be some texting specific setting in the APN setup that I'm missing?

    These are my APN settings:

    Name: Rogers
    APN: rogers-core-appl1.apn
    Proxy: <not set>
    Port: <not set>
    Username: <not set>
    Password: <not set>
    Server: 172.25.0.107
    MMSC: http://mms.gprs.rogers.com
    MMS Proxy: 10.128.1.69
    MMS Port: 80
    MCC: 302
    MNC: 72
    Authentication: None
    APN Type: default,mms,supl

Also, I did send a text successfully when I first received the phone on Monday, and have since installed a number of apps. Has anyone heard anything about an app interfering with texting?

Thoughts? I'm at a complete loss and would very much appreciate any input.

    Thanks!

I've solved my problem. Turns out my SMSC number wasn't set properly.

These are the directions I followed:

    1. On the menu select settings==>Network==>Operator. It will show you a list of operators. Select your operator and reboot your device. If this does not work then please follow the step 2.

    2. Open the phone dialer on the desktop or main menu and dial *#*#4636#*#*. You will get to a menu, select Phone Information from the menu. You will be show a page having detail phone information. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen. You can set SMSC number field there having some other number or blank. Put your SMSC number in that and update. Now you will be able to send SMS. If you don't know the SMSC number then ask your operator customer care to provide you the SMSC number.
    That's from this site: http://samalpramod.blogspot.com/2010...-motorola.html

And the SMSC number I used was +17057969300, which I got from this site:
