    Cellebrite Maintenance Fee

Has anybody else heard of a new Cellebrite yearly fee that you must pay in order to receive any new updates?

I haven't yet, I just plug it in to ethernet and download off the website to update. We just bought another cellbrite and no one said anything about a fee.

    Yes,

I saw it when I bought mine last July and have gotten a couple email reminders about it... I also Bought one off ebay but it still allows it to update and there is no telling how old that is...

I can see it happening... Why? Cause they are going with the universal micro plug. Cellbrite has no revenue left if they can't sell their cables. So they need to get it from somewhere else.

I heard about it earlier this month when I needed an update. The guy said "we don't email you those for free anymore unless you sign up."

But in asking a few more questions from what he said (so who knows if this is completely true or not) They won't send the new updates for free on a regular basis. But if you call them and want an update, Then they'll send you THAT update for free.

So from what I got out of him is that whenever I want an updated software I have to ask them vs just waiting them to send it.

Anyone else heard of it working that way?

Kind of like buying a razor from Gillette and having to pay extra for the replacement blades.
If I'm annoyed and you're annoyed, does that make us a paranoid ??

The damn cables don't last long enough to be worth the $40 a whack they charge now anyways.
Hi there. I'm the guy on the other side of the counter. If you're a jerk to me, guess how hard I'm going to try to help you?

I got the same email about it. When you buy the machines, there is something in there about only getting updates for a length of time but they have never enforced it. My current machine is 2 1/2 years old and it still updates fine.

the fee is for the 2nd year of the monthly SW updates, warranty repair of the unit and live tech support.

also if you look on your original sales invoice it clearly states that thier is a fee for the 2nd year and thereafter.

you can update as per your normal procedure; when your UME 36 pro displays a message that you have 30 days to renew your license you need to go to my.cellebrite.com to register and renew.

if you choose not to renew you can still use your UME 36 pro but you will not be able to update it. this is not a new feature again please refer to your original invoice- if purchased through other means other than Cellebrite, Cellebrite is not responsible. this information is also clearly stated on Verzion and Sprint co-op sites if purchasing via that method

Please note that while the Cellebrite UME36 supports phonebook transfers for over 95% of all the handsets on the market, it currently supports multimedia transfers (Pics / Videos / Ring tones, and Txt messages) for approximately 70% of all CDMA and 90% of all GSM handsets. Please rest assured that we will be adding additional multimedia support incrementally via software upgrades. First year software, technical support and repair is free of charge. The maintenance agreement for the second year and thereafter is $249.99 per year, which includes unlimited software upgrades for every new handset added, technical support, and warranty/repair. (249 is the standard retail price)

Too high IMO. When the time comes, I will just buy a new unit, which will get me new cables, and sell the old unit and probably come out about the same as paying that $250.

    Backup Assistant = Free.
Pictures = buy an SD card.

Looks like my two Cellebrites are going on eBay. $500 per year after dropping $1000 per unit, on top of constantly replacing the cables at $20 - $25 a pop is absolutely ludicrous. Not to mention the fact that the screen backlight on my 2-year old unit is already shot. We'll make do.
Low price, Excellent Service, High Quality. Pick any two, but you never get all three.

Charging a fee for updates? LOL, thats the end of Cellebrite. I mean they have to come up with newer, faster devices in order for them to stay in business. Their current business model of selling to new store owners aint working as most already have the machine or buy it off ebay, also there arent that many new stores popping up.

Plus with the new Backup Assistant software that theyr rolling out soon, enables backup from regular phone to PDA.. PDA to PDA... so cellebrite will become obsolete.

    RIP Cellebrite 01/01/1999-03/14/2010

    back up assistant?

good luck transferring t-mobile, ATT,Metro PCS, Sprint etc...with back up assistant....

you recieve monthly SW updates for every new handset, warranty repair of the unit and live tech support

other companies charge alot more and do not do half as much as Cellebrite it is fast easy and always on top of the market.

even if you sell it on E-bay the customer you sell it to is still going to have to pay the $249 per year so Cellebrite won't lose a dime.

and when a customer comes in and asks you to transfer his phonebooks, pictures etc... and you can't the problem has just solved itself because you will lose customers and revenue.....try telling a t-mobile customer weho is switching to Verizon to use back up asssitant..the truth is those services have less than a %5 percent adoption rate and the customers pays monthly for it......

i'll just bluetooth them, if I can't do that i'll transfer them to a phone that cellebrite still supports without the $250 and bluetooth them from there.....THEN download backup assistant. I promise you I will not lose customers nor revenue if I don't pay cellebrite $1000/yr for my 4 machines... There are other ways and plenty of them
Good things comes to those who wait.....but they only get whats left behind by those who hustle.

using Bluetooth...that feature is not supported by all devices and when it does work you have to transfer 1 at a time- it is really time consuming I have tried it.

I don't worry about the $250 a year it works out to 68cents a day I would rather use Cellebrite to save time and I charge for backing up customer info to a flash drive or USB stick customers like having all thier info backed up in case they lose their device
