Credit for this information goes out to a NUMBER of Howard Forum Page Plus Forum dealers (Distance Wireless...I know worked hours on this list) that found out which phones would and would not activate over the course for 2/6-2/11-2010. Thank you ALL of the dealers that worked to supply this information to the general public.

I have not heard exactly. I am telling folks it is on the banned list at this point since Palm's are on the list. Maybe someone can chime in on if they have been able to activate one.

I tried activating an Alltel LG AX265 on PP and found it is blacklisted - even though it is a postpaid phone.

I am a new PP dealer in an area that was until recently Alltel and as such most customers coming off contract have Alltel phones.

Am I in for problems trying to activate postpaid Alltel phones?

Ironically I was able to activate a year old prepaid Alltel Samsung. Any thoughts?

To: Markymark805. So far, Sprint Centroes have a 100% success rate in activating on PPC.

To: Meshwifi. It looks like to me you got caught up in the random 2% blacklisted esns which shouldn't be. But first , check to make sure the esn wasn't stolen, lost or account over due to begin with. If that checks, then it could be that it fell in through the cracks in that random 2% caused by a screwed up Verizon mandate which put perfectly clean esn phones on the black list.

The prepaid phone thing and smartphone thing is fairly predictable but the 2% random blacklist is a major headache because it has no real rhyme or reason.

Are you sure the AX265 wasn't available as a prepaid phone for Alltel? I thought one of my friends was using one on prepaid a while back? (ie this could be similar to the U450 on Verizon Prepaid/Postpaid)

Now we're going to need a Alltel prepaid list to go with the Verizon one! Both Simple Freedom and Alltel U. No freedom and definitely NOT simple. What a mess Vz and PPC made of their byod.

So all Alltel / Simple Freedom phones are banned?! What on earth would VZW/PPC have to gain by banning *Alltel* prepaid phones?!

Will an ESN/MEID check from a PPC dealer be a reliable means of determining whether or not a particular device is banned?

Yes. An ESN check will reliably tell if the phone is banned as of that exact moment.

Alltel prepaid devices got swept up with the Verizon stuff. A probable byproduct of the merger combining their once separate esn bases.

I've heard more then once on Hofo that Alltel prepaid phones are banned as well as Vz ones. Ain't it fun?

Good to know, I was looking at some good shape Sprint Centros for a decent rate, might have to try and pick up one to test it out.

Save yourself the chance of bricking them. If they are clean esn Sprints, just activate them on Boost cdma with unlimited everything.

unlimited everything except coverage right? Boost CDMA has to have one of the worst footprints of just about any CDMA carrier: Boost Coverage

Yeah, when is the Boost(er) Club going to realize that not everyone lives next to one of the five Sprint towers spread across the US?
You either have coverage or you have Sprint native, you can't have both.

The AX265 was activated on VZW prepaid after the southern Minnesota Alltel market converted to VZW - but before that is was purchased as a postpaid phone and was on a postpaid account (customer's sister).

I must have been unclear about the phone that did work - it is a prepaid Alltel phone (samsung flip).

But if I am hearing you correctly, if I am successful in luring lots of long time Alltel (now VZW) customers to P+, I might have a 2% fail rate at activating their postpaid Alltel phones.

How do I check an ESN/MEID without doing an activation or ESN change? Or is that how I do it?
