Before you get Nexus One (or any phone) . . .

You should do a search in the phone forums (HoFo and others) to see if there are some common problems. For example, I've discovered the hard way that many Nexus One owners cannot send and receive SMS/MMS messages. I've read of no sure fix and it is unclear if this is a software issue or a hardware issue. All I know is that it exists and makes the phone less than a full phone as far as I'm concerned.

Otherwise, the Nexus One would be a great phone. Sigh . . . I'm very frustrated and disappointed to make this discovery.

Yeah, and mine worked fine for just over the 14 days in which I could return the phone. Now messaging doesn't work at all.

How could you have had the phone for 14 days? It only came out last Tuesday... unless your talking about the AWS version.

Yes, I ordered the AWS version. I've been using it on ATT with a prepaid SIM that has a cash balance I'd like to deplete.

I had mine since day one. I have that sms problem once in a while. Just reboot and it goes away. I'm sure they will fix this soon

I certainly hope so, because rebooting does nothing.

Using the AT&T version here - make sure your MMS port is set to 80. The other APN settings should be fine at default AT&T values.

Mea culpa! I was too quick to point the finger at the phone concerning my problem with the inability to send or receive text meassages. It appears this problem may have arisen from something screwy ATT does with tying its prepaid accounts to a specific phone's IMEI. The explanation makes no sense to me; I suspect it is some attempt by ATT to control its users.

Google and HTC, I apologize. Now I just need to reload all the apps I uninstalled in my attempt to fix this.

The Rom's have a large part to play too. Quite a few cooked rom's out there have mms issues.

I had the issue for a few days and it ended up being the ROM and not the phone. Doh.
