I need to apologize for my semi-rant; I was being a bit over the top. Anyway, it appears amazon only let's you upgrade one phone per account. I went to a t-mobile store today and bought the Nuron with a partial upgrade. I only paid $61 and worked out a plan to pay for the rest of the phone in the next 4 months. I like it so far, it takes a little getting used to, but it's a good phone. The only thing I do not like is the camera, you need good lighting in order to take good picture otherwise the photos come out mediocre.
so you can only upgrade 1 phone per account and it then uses up all your phone upgrades?!? Is that why you had to pay $180 for your second phone? That doesn't seem right... If that's the case, I'd rather just buy it at t-mobile for $88 for each account or buy it at walmart.
thanks for the info, i'll have to call amazon to verify this but let me know if what I'm assuming is correct.
I just checked on my.t-mobile and the line I just upgraded with Amazon shows that it is NOT eligible for an upgraded (as expected). I also checked another line that is eligible for an upgrade and I got all the full upgrade prices so I guess Amazon didn't prevent the upgrade of that line. I didn't get a chance to check the second line on Amazon though to see if I could upgrade there still.

It did not mess up my account. I had to pay around $142 with a partial upgrade for being with them 16 months (I only paid $61 that time and decided to pay the rest in the next few months). My father told the t-mobile guy that a t-mobile rep (from phone) told him that since he was a preferred customer he could upgrade earlier. The sales associate said it doesn't work like that in stores that if he wanted the full upgrade he'd have to call customer service since that's where they offered him the full upgrade.
For amazon, I think they may only allow you to upgrade one phone per amazon account (not t-mobile account).

thanks topcat and yuriev for the clarification...Let me confirm this one last time, so what you're saying is in order to buy 3 phones for one family account, I would need to use 3 amazon accounts? That's kind of weird...but if that's what you have to do, I guess creating more amazon accounts isn't too bad.
I asked amazon wireless CS and they said "To upgrade multiple lines on your family plan, please place a separate order for each phone within that plan." So it looks like you can use one amazon account.
thanks!

Well... I really do like the phone. It works well. Just a word of caution..... By accident, i used a USB car charger on the USB port and it shorted out the phones USB. I thought it would charge by the USB port also...I was wrong. I took my phone back to TMO store and they replaced it for me. LOL. Anyone else done this? Anyways...Tethering still works well. LOL
This is tethered to a Linux laptop. Works out-of-the-box! I live kinda out in the woods away from town, I have the phone next to a window so i can get 3G. LOL
My gf and I both picked up the Nuron @ T-Mobile today for $179 + tax which is the no contract price. We've both got grandfathered family plans and T-Zones..and after T-Mo dropped the 1-year renewal option, we just buy our phones outright.
Anyway, so far I really like the phone. The touch screen is obviously not as responsive as the iPhone due to the type of LCD, but for the price I think it's great. I'm loving the turn-by-turn navi w/ voice guidance too. I have two Garmins but they don't have TTS so the Ovi maps software is a nice bonus.
Sound quality is very good - I'm picky. I'll see about RF performance tomorrow at work since it's a fringe area. I think I'm going to end up liking this phone a lot. I still love my BlackBerry but it's nice to have something with a big screen, so I'll probably use this one the weekend. Everything works great with my T-Zones, including the maps software and the Facebook app.
I'd definitely recommend this phone.. Mostly because it's priced very reasonably in relation to its features, AND it works with my T-Zones.
Castrol EDGE 5W-30 is my drug of choice.

I was finally able to setup my work email (OWA) using Nokia MfE with the Nuron. I couldn't get it to work with the N900 MfE using the same settings. My work Exchange server has a private certificate and I couldn't get it to work with the N900.
However I would love to have built-in threaded messaging, which is not available with S60 phones. I love the messaging style of the N900.

5230 price is about the same as TM717. Since 5230 is a smartphone, the choice is clear. Especially 5230 can be tethered out of the box without hacking.
I don't know, I've never had a Nokia 5800. However, I do plan to buy a stylus from a 5800 to use on the 5230 because amazon only sells them for the 5800. There are other sites that sell them for 5230, but they're questionable sites.

Then I don't know why it only allowed me to upgrade one phone.
Anyway, do you plan to add the $10 web plan? I did and the first thing I downloaded was Opera mini browser from the ovi store and I also downloaded ereader (an e-book program). What's strange though is that some websites look exactly as they do on your PC (IMDB.com, ereader.com) while others look more like mobile internet page (amazon.com, facebook); I'm not quite sure why.
If anyone manages to change the bottom row shortcuts, let me know! It seems like the 5230 can do that, but not this version.
T-Mobile locks it down just like it does with the left and/or right soft key on the non-touchscreen phones. Your only choice is to de-brand it but I wouldn't recommend doing it since it involves changing product code.

Thanks. I will wait until someone posts some results. Changing the product code is not that bad after all But can't read it from this phone
Do any of the IM programs work for you guys? I tried signing onto AIM and got some sort of 'msisdn error code920' message, same as my gf. I Googled it and it seems like it's a common problem. It's not quite a deal breaker but I'm disappointed..
