If my number was portable I'd be sporting a new iPhone 4 for cheap on another carrier, not worrying about if Sasktel is getting them. The best part is your rates will be better and you'll have various international plan options if need be.

Bell's site will tell you if it portable. Ship you an iPhone and then convert you over when you get it.

I personally don't care if SaskTel ever carries the iPhone, I got mine hooked up with them months ago. The reason I don't care is very simple: If they do start to carry them, they like all other carriers will have specific iPhone plans which generally suck, usage caps etc. They will then get access to Apples system that let's them access settings in the iPhone to block out certain options. I like being able to tether data with my unlocked iPhone without anyone knowing about it, and not having my carrier make decisions about what setting I have access to on a phone that I paid for. Cheers.

You can port sasktel numbers to Telus. Did it about a week ago to get the iPhone 4. Also, Telus has a pretty decent promo plan on right now for $50 but it ends nov. 6. It worked so well that a friend decided to do it too. I went to future shop in regina and they weren't that great but my friend went to best buy and were awesome, even told him how to get toys to waive the activation fee. Unless you have a contract with sasktel that's no worth breaking, I'd say there is no reason not to switch to Telus. They have the exact same coverage as sasktel.

Oh well, if SaskTel can't pick up the iPhone then I'll just look at an Android. Hmmm maybe even Win7.

You can't port all sasktel numbers. Allot of the smaller communities still have their prefixes locked from portability. The federal government has been slow at rolling out the portability everywhere, I guess probably because it wasn't really needed for those areas till a couple years back when Telus got use of the sasktel CDMA network. Now with the 3G network it allows for more opportunities in the smaller communities.

Sasktel WILL be getting the iPhone, it's just a matter of when. One reason for the delay that I've heard is that they are trying to negotiate with Apple. Apple demands a certain amount of retail space for an iPhone display, and Sasktel isn't willing to give that up.

If you really want an iPhone, just buy one from Apple online. Any iPhone bought from Apple Canada is unlocked, and can be programmed to any carrier that supports them in Canada (inc Sasktel). Yes, its freaking expensive, but you won't be locked into a contract.

If you don't want to pay that much for an iPhone, keep waiting. I've heard several different timelines, including one that said "end of the year". Just remember that they are most likely in negotiations, and that it can take time. Sasktel WILL get the iPhone, just be patient.

If you want information about Sasktel, do yourself a favour and don't go to the dealers, go to an actual Sasktel store. (Learned from experience)

If you have an iPhone, here's how to program it to Sasktel, direct from the source.

@sevenseeker "Sasktel WILL get the iPhone, just be patient." ... I don't want to speak for everyone on this topic but I feel we have been plenty patient with SaskTel waiting for the network upgrade (delayed 6 weeks) and the iPhone (delayed ???).

Even more towers went live today! If only Sasktel was the one managing the HSPA upgrades in Manitoba, then the MB network would be sometime before the next decade

Can anyone confirm whether or not Facetime works on their unlocked iPhone 4 with Sasktel. I'm thinking of buying direct from Apple but now I've come across some posts saying Facetime only works if you're under contract with an official iPhone 4 carrier.

Isn't Facetime Wifi only? So no carrier needed.

Facetime sends an activation SMS to a certain number. If SaskTel hasn't enabled the number it sends to, it won't work. I'd love to see someone with a Telus/Bell iPhone to figure out how that activation works.

Facetime definately doesn't work on Sasktel. Not sure if it's sasktel not sending the SMS or apple not allowing it because Sasktel isn't an official carrier.

SaskTel wants you to look at other cells besides the iPhone.

Alright, so the @SaskTel twitter guy just said Facetime will work on unlocked iPhones.

Is he/she simply mistaken, or is it possible that they've enabled something on their end so it now works?
