    Unlocked Iphone 3G

I activated my iPhone 3G Monday morning at 9:30 out in the Battlefords area and it works great so far! I travel western SK, a rather large area and am very impressed with the amount of coverage there was the morning of the roll out! I look forward to seeing almost weekly improvements to the network from here on! Kudo's Sasktel and partners to a job well done!

EDIT: I got my Galaxy S Vibrant and the GPS seems to be working. It will lock to 10m or less very quickly. I still have more testing to do because I just got the phone.

Samsung Galaxy S GPS problems. http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/17/s...nd-what-to-do/

Hopefully they can fix that problem with a firmware update.

One of the most annoying things about my BlackBerry Storm 9530 is that GPS does not work in Google Maps. My Storm was my first smartphone and I was really excited about GPS on my phone but it has been so disappointing not being able to use it in Google Maps.

I spoke to someone today at Sasktel that told me Apple isnt even speaking to sasktel. I would start looking at getting a droid, they are better anyway.

I have a friend that works at Sasktel, and he says that Apple is currently testing the new 3G+ network with their own people before they give it the thumbs up. Remember, Sasktel actually buys ALL their product from Bell, as they're much much smaller and don't have any real buying power. Apple doesn't like 'sub-licensing' from one company to another, but apparently they already have to a few smaller carriers in Europe, so they will here eventually too. Give it time, the Iphone is coming...

I really doubt Apple has anyone "on the ground" in Saskatchewan. They may be coordinating the deploying of the VVM platform patch with Sasktel and testing that - but that only takes a few days to complete. I'm betting it's got more to do with hammering out the distribution deal...

Just found out that apparently that the sales staff are being told to tell people that the iphone won't be sold by Sasktel for at least 2 months and your only option before then is to buy an unlocked one and buy a micro sim from them which will be available soon, which is what I'm going to do.

Ya, I was also told you can use an unlocked phone. I'm not going to pay full price though, I'll wait the cpl of months.

Yep, and if your fancy new iPhone 4 shows up before SaskTel has microsims, you can just cut a regular one to fit.

How far out of the Battlefords have you travelled? I work in the Edam area and live in Saskatoon so I'm curious to see when they'll roll out coverage for more out of the way spots like this and the highways in between.

I'm sure they'll have microsims if they are going to release 3G phones.

He meant the microsims haven't arrived, they aren't in stock yet.

Nothing out that way yet it drops just passed Prince, I have a cabin out that way and have been checking that area constantly. The schedule on the website states next month for Edam and Glaslyn Area, Glaslyn already has coverage,im sure it will be sooner then. I will update as soon as there is coverage there! Like I said I travel the western side of the province daily, and it almost seems to be improving daily which is nice to see!

Sasktel will have microsims available. (or at least their official twitter feed answered me that they will sell them in the next few weeks) This way they can also sell 3G plans to iPad owners who may want them as well. They also indicated that they will support the iPhone 4. They are currently negotiating to get it.
Feel free to check out their twitter feed.

Do you know if Cochin has coverage? I would assume so if North Battleford, Edam, and Glaslyn do. Cochin is on their schedule for Sept 2010 which is right away anyway.
