Official Motorola DROID 2.1 ESE81 Update Thread

One thing that bugs me is that the News and Weather widget doesn't highlight your selection in orange anymore.

When I installed the released apk file after the NExus One came out I liked how it highlighted you news selection in orange.

With the current News and Weather widget in the update.zip I installed I noticed that not only do the weather icons look a little different but your selection is no longer highlighted. Sure, the widget highlights orange when you select it and so do the topics on top of the screen but the individual news articles no longer highlight orange. Anyone else notice this?

Also - I had the 2.1 Gallery on my phone but uninstalled it knowing that the 2.1 OTA update was coming. Will it have to redownload all of my picasa photos?

Not sure where it stores the thumb nails but I still have a file on my sd card called "albumthumbs" which I think is from my picasa photos. Should I just leave it there or delete and let it download again. Just want to make sure that I don't have duplicates.

Friend of mine just got 2.1 OTA this morning. He was told by Verizon he was one of the first 10,000 and the rest would be rolling out over the next few weeks.

And he only got his Droid 2 weeks ago......

10,000 was the first day. It was 200,000 a night last night, tonight, etc until done.

I did it manually with the phandroid link. Took 10 minutes. Love the new gallery and voice to text. I am using helix loader to get more home screens. I wonder what 2.2 will contain?

I have OTA off and am holding out until this new version gets cooked, so far the only addition I hear is the Picasa in the gallery. I already have the .03P baseband thanks to the posters here, so there isn't much of a draw here for me. Am I missing out?

i just redownloaded the update and tried to reinstall. here is the message:

Dude I had this problem I solved it. Yes you do need to put the amazon app back in system/app but all these links on the internet are for old versions of com.amazon.mp3.apk.... i had somone send me the most recent version off their droid. After I had the new version, I used Root Explorer (convenience, although you can do it with ADB etc) to copy the apk from the SD card to system/app. make sure you hit the button in Root Explorer to mount the directories for R/W access. After copy-paste, long hold, and set the permissions for the "user" to read/write/execute. then click the apk to install it.

after youve done that, the update should install smoothly.

Any word on when the SBF will be released? I currently have ESE53 flash via the SBF on my Droid and really don't want to downgrade to 2.0.1 then have to upgrade to 2.1 ese81.

Just when I was getting ready to go to bed, I received a message on my phone with a system update message. At first I thought it was updates for my apps, but as it is being install, I realized it's the 2.1 update we've been waiting for. Here's the info after the update:

Firmware version: 2.1-update1
Baseband version: C_01.3E.03P
Build Number: ESE81
Location: Kansas City, MO

One more thing. So what does this update supposed to do? Speed up web and what else?
