The env3 DOES require a 9.99 per month data plan. The env2 does not.

Does the LG Env3 Require a Data Plan? I've seen many people say "Yes" and lots of people say "No!" about this. I'd just like some clarification!
The env3 DOES require a 9.99 per month data plan. The env2 does not.
It didn't used to; now, it does.
If you purchased your enV 3 before mid-January, you're grandfathered out of the new requirement (unless said handset ever needs replacing, that is).
And there's no eBaying your way out of VZW's nickel-'n'-diming you, understood? XD

Why are these companies so annoying? I don't want to get one of those "Free" phones because they break easily, and don't work well. There also seem to be on the tail end of the technology spectrum!
Of course I don't want to spend too much money on a new phone. (Well I was going to buy it off Amazon for 1 Cent!) Is there something else similar to the LG Env3 that doesn't require the data plan? I could search for an Env2.

The Cosmos is one of the best 1X only phones out.
You have got to be kidding me, right? Do you work for Verizon? This new policy is very unpopular just like Obama care is...and rightfully so. Honestly, your constant defending is getting tiresome. What woonderful technology does the LG VX8360 offer? Oh, I forgot, it's 3G capable, bend over and take a reaming. Squeal like a PIG!Originally Posted by CellKrazeDude
I have mixed feelings on the new policy. If they came out with a new set of phones with built in functionality to maximize the net experience, then yep, make the data plan a requirement.Originally Posted by djjim
It's a tough sell to convince me that an env3 is now a data required phone. On the flip side, I have seen people who have seriously benefited from these data features, so I am a little conflicted. My answer is, release phones that make a compelling internet experience people want to use, then charge for it.
I have steered my sister away from certain phones for this exact reason and my wife as well.
The env3 activated or purchased after jan 18 2010 requires a mandatory $9.99 data feature.
No longer a VZW employee, but still a good information source.

With all that money you save monthly with your Sprint plan, you should be able to order Hooked On Phonics - remember, the phone number to order this is 1-800-ABCDEFG.

i see no problem in mandatory data for premier phones like the droid, iphone, etc but one for an env3? come on thats strictly greed.

I did consider the LG Cosmos. I can't find much information on it. It was just released last week.

I agree with this....the env3 before Jan 18, 2010 didn't cause VZW to loose money and after it does so VZW has to require a data plan.
VZW thinks we're mind-numbed-robots?
or
VZW thinks and we can't?
most high tech phones req data plan
......then what made the env3 become a high tech phone after Jan 18? Was it always a high tech phone that for some reason they made a mistake on and corrected it Jan 18, probably not, they have too many people that know what they are doing making decisions! I still think greed has something to do with it especially noting the data plans being argued about when people don't need nor want the plans but want a good quality phone. VZW found a technical way around to charge more and called it data plans.Originally Posted by berube52991
