    Pro-rate AT&T Data Plan

Does anyone know if AT&T will prorate a international data plan if you only invoke if for a few days during the month? Based on their latest plans it doesn't appear so, but interested to know whether there is the prospect of new plans that would allow this, or alternatively whether any grandfather agreements exist with this kind of flexibility.

Features have always been prorated from date of addition or cancellation.
If I'm annoyed and you're annoyed, does that make us a paranoid ??

The International Data Plans for all models require a twelve month contract. Consequently prorating is not an option except to cover the partial first and/or last partial billing cycles, if applicable.

They price these plans with an eye towards you paying the whole year for a few days or weeks when they take a big loss on your usage. Therefore it is unlikely they will let a few greedy users apply the plan for only the days they need the data.

Even if you could it would be risky, because delayed data roaming charges could bite you in the behind after you "cleverly" removed the data plan.

Excellent point. I was only referring to features in general.

You can add the international data plan to smartphones for as long as you want. It will be prorated.

Clicking on the $24.99 data roaming option in OLAM shows the following popup :

    $24.99/month

Keep up with email and browse the web with your SmartPhone (PDA and BlackBerry) when you travel abroad.

20 MB of data usage in over 90 countries with an overage rate of $.005/KB.

Rate outside these discounted countries is $.0195/KB.

Does not include data usage within the U.S. Qualified domestic plan required.

For a complete list of discounted countries, visit att.com/dataconnectglobal.

Adding or removing this feature mid bill cycle will result in a proration of the monthly fee and the included MB of data. To receive the full 20 MB allotment before your next bill, call customer care at 1-800-331-0500.

What you quoted are called Data Global Add-ons and are not called the International data plans. They are in addition to the domestic PDA, BlackBerry or iPhone data plans. You are purchasing a fixed amount of data per billing cycle. So if you use 19 megabytes in one day you do not get a discount because you have twenty-nine more days in the billing cycle.

Data Global Add On: May only be used with eligible AT&T-certified devices. Domestic data usage not included. Qualified domestic wireless data plan required. Available countries, coverage and participating international carriers included in the "Select International Roam Zone" vary from our generally available Canada/international wireless data roam zones and may not be as extensive. The Select International Roam Zone is restricted to select international wireless carrier(s). See att.com/dataconnectglobal for a current list of participating carriers and eligible roam zones. With respect to the countries included in the Select International Roam Zone, you will be restricted from accessing Service through any non-participating Canada/international wireless carriers that may otherwise be included in our generally available Canada and international wireless data roam zones. Eligible wireless voice plan is required. If combined with a wireless voice plan that includes international voice roaming, your international wireless voice roaming in countries included in the Global Data Add-On's Select International Roam Zone will be limited to the participating Canada/international wireless carriers and you will be restricted from voice roaming through any non-participating Canada/international wireless carriers that may otherwise be included in our generally available Canada and international voice roam zones. Requires minimum one-year agreement and you must remain on an eligible Data Global Add-On, for a minimum one-year term.
