The original ROM on the phone was WM 6.1 ... what I did was update the ROM to 6.5 through the HTC website located HERE after flashing to HTC's official update, I was then able to flash to a "cooked" ROM with out installing anything else. There are many very cool ones out there. I have been very happy with this one as it includes all you need for the Ozone. This ROM is specifically cooked for the HTC Ozone. Please note HTC CEDAR/OZONE DEVICES ONLY (Dash3G, HTC SNAP S52X and S511 will NOT work)! Any other questions dont hesitate to ask! If you need a guide, I have one.

where do you get the cooked rom? anxiously awaiting an ozone here this week and anticipating this.

also, lots of people are complaining about the ozone freezing up all the time. Is this attributable to the wm 6.1 only?

"Lots of people"? Where are you seeing this? I researched this phone thoroughly before settling on it and didn't come across many, if any, complaints about lock-ups.

BTW, I've been running 6.5 on my Ozone for months and it hasn't locked up once.

go and read the verizon wireless website where there are about 800 reviews of this phone... you will see lots of complaints of that issue.

    http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/p...tem=phoneFirst

there are 4 complaints of this on the first page alone. going through the first few pages I counted 15 people who complain of lock-ups- most people used the word "freeze" Some people were referring to the internet freezing up... I would be using Opera, I wonder if that would by pass the problem... maybe the problem is in IE?

My hope is that the WM 6.5 fixes this issue, and I seriously DOUBT all of these people were savvy enough to go and flash their phone to a newer rom, certainly they would have mentioned it if they did. I saw 1 person claimed "The phone really came to life after the 6.5 update"... this was buried deep in those reviews somewhere

Needless to say, since I won't be getting directly getting screwed by Verizon on a 2 year contract and $80+ a month, my fear of being dissatisfied with the phone is pretty low.

I take the "reviews" on Verizon's website with a grain of salt. Instead of relying on individual complaints, look at the average rating for the Ozone - four stars out of 5 based on over 800 ratings. That says a lot more about the general opinion of the device, and if you dig around on HoFo you'll find that the Ozone is a well-regarded WinMo smartphone. I've certainly been quite happy with mine. I use it for everything - voice, texting, web surfing, email, and GPS. In three months not a single lock-up or malfunction. It's no iPhone or Droid, but if you're looking for an affordable no-nonsense phone with WinMo functionality, WiFi and GPS it's a very safe choice IMO, especially for $100 or less new if you shop eBay/Craigslist and have some patience.

I was able to flash this custom 3VOLUTION SERIES rom while on the official Windows 6.5 firmware. I had some trouble with the hardSPL at first...then tried it on another computer and it worked. ...WOW...loving it

Some people have problems getting through the HardSPL part because of active sync issues, not being able to detect the phone after it disconnecting..

tip..this is what worked for me: after failing the hardSPL, place the "EnterBootLoader.exe" on your phone's device memory....run it from your phone, it will put your phone into the tri color mode and tell you if you're hardspl or not..then pull the battery, power up the phone and repeat hardSPL process until the screen displays "0.39.Hard".

YES! Thank you so much for the info. I managed to get it to work thanks to the tip about moving the bootloader.exe over to the phone so I could easily check to see if it was hardspl. It was getting confusing earlier, as I bricked the phone last night and had to run that MTTY program to get it to work correctly again. It was the dreaded 0.00 mb free problem after flashing back to stock firmware- solution here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=540290 It was really screwed up, when the phone memory was 0.00 mb free no themes or anything would load up, the phone would barely work but with constant error messages that there was no memory.

I decided to go in the other room and use our XP computer so I could use activesync to see if that made things work better... I'm running the Windows 7 64 bit machine as a standard user and it has elevation prompts to administrator during flashing and other processes when working on the phone and I was concerned that this might be contributing to the issues.

Eventually what worked was to run the application unlock (SDA unlock) first, reboot the phone (couldnt figure out what "Reboot SDA now" meant, the best I could come up with was to reboot the phone, which seemed to be the only logical thing to do.) Then I ran the Hardspl program, rebooted and checked the bootloader and it said "0.39.Hard" Figured I was good to go at that point, ran the 3vo firmware program, and finally good to go!

Just checking it out so far but looks so much better than the stock one. Anxious to try it out!

Thanks to Kinvid and everyone else for the assistance.

This is probably a dumb question, but what does a custom ROM do?

I have an ozone and depending on what the ROM does I might consider flashing it
