X10 getting very hot + never 4 bars of signal?

I was in the office today and noticed that my pocket started to get very hot.

To my surprise my X10 was hot to the touch. The office has limited reception so it is in and out of signal all day. It also appears to be draining the battery fast. Thats to be expected if it keeps trying to obtain signal I suppose.

Is it normal for the X10 to get this hot and is there any way to limit it other then turning on airplace mode?

    Thanks

Another thing I've noticed is that I never get full 4 bars anywhere. Its always been 3 bars.

I havn't noticed any signal issues though. It still gets signal even in weak areas (albiet heating the phone up a lot).

Has anyone else noticed that they never get a full 4 bars of signal in the top right corner of the phone display?

I honestly haven't noticed if I've ever gotten 4 bars of signal on my X10 here through Rogers. However, my connection has been solid and fast since buying the phone last Wednesday.

As for heating up, if the phone is working hard to re-establish a signal, or processing other tasks (background updating, playing music/video, running games, etc.) it can get pretty hot. Same used to happen with my old iPAQ 910c, and was especially noticable when I was at work with the phone tethered to my laptop (as it is as I write this). Not sure about the X10 but my iPAQ had a temperature sensor and would warn me if it ever got too hot (it did a few times when I was testing some WiFi router-hosting software).

Try turning off 3G and see if the problem persists. The way 3G works, its possible that a weaker signal might make the phone work "harder" to find a better signal.

My battery goes anywhere from 30 degrees Celsius to 45 if I'm really working it hard.

Depends what the rated operating temperature for the battery and phone are.

The GPU in my computer can reach 95-degrees C under heavy loads, but that's OK as it's rated for 113-degrees (still, I obviously try to keep it as cool as I can).

Mine didn't come with a Sim card in the box, so I went back to the dealer today and he gave me one for free, the 4001 series. Finally got rid of my 6 yr old SIM card..I have noticed improved internet speed and I get 4 bars..
This has been one of the best authorized dealer I have been to, best customer service and always polite..got a free SIM and screen protector for my X10 from them..

How do you know what series a SIM card is?

Yeah, I was very surprised, but pleasantly so, regarding all my dealings with Rogers in the run-up to getting my X10, as well as the day of the pickup. Dealing with retentions I was expecting to get a run-around, but everyone was very helpful and polite.
