I wanted to instal the Astro File Manager for Android to my Rogers sony ericsson x10, does anyone have a detail instruction on how to install it to the phone.
Thanks in advance
?
Android Marketplace -> Search -> Astro -> Install.
^ This.
Was one of the first things I did, and didn't have any problems. I'm an Android noob too.
Samsung Galaxy S III (I747M)
Jellybam v3.3.0 || Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean)
so on the sony x10
go to browser>search Android Marketplace -> Search -> Astro -> Install.
is this the right website:http://www.android.com/market/ AND i couldn't find any astro file manager?
I'm too new to this android stuff, please help.
AND is there anyway that i use USB cable to install it to my phone and what is steps. I've downloaded the astro file manager (1265927417_ASTRO_File_Manager_2.2.4.apk) and saved it in the phone already, but i don't know how install it cause I coudn't find the file from the phone (do i go officesuite to look for that file? if not where?) but I can see it on the computer.
Thanks
No, don't use your browser.
On the X10, there's an Android Marketplace application.
On the home screen, flick to the left and you'll get the Google Apps screen: YouTube, Maps, GMail & Market.
Just a headsup. Androids are like Iphones. Most apps can only be installed via the phone's market app. There are some "unofficial" markets but that is only if Google does not allow paid markets in your country. Usually that also requires rooting of the phone so that a custom Rom can be installed.
I would suggest anyone who is new to Androids to check the XDA forums for some of the Android phones, such as the HTC Magic, Nexus One, G1. Tons of helpful info. Also, there are other websites for Motorola androids.
The good thing about Android is that the main OS is the same no matter which manufacturer uses it.
You can install any .APK file once you install a file manager/browser like Astro or eStrong File Explorer.Originally Posted by visitador02
Just check the "Unknown Sources" box.
Settings -> Applications -> [check] Unknown Sources (Allow install of non-Market applications)
No need to root.
Dear All,
I hope somebody will know what I have to do and provide a step-by-step procedure to finish the installation of Astro File Manager on SE Xperia X10.
The steps I took so far:
- download com.metago.astro.2.4.apk to my PC
- copy this file under the same name to X10’s SD-memory card into root and /downloads directories
=> com.metago.astro.2.4.apk is in one root and one sub-root directory on SD-card.
- in X10’s settings I have allowed “non-market” applications
and
- have tried to find and install com.metago.astro.2.4.apk in these two directories with X10-browser in “downloads” folder, as well as by giving the browser straight as URL the string:
“content://sdcard/directory.filename.apk” in variety of combinations…
without any success (“not found” messages!).
Current status:
I don’t have any idea how to proceede, but ‘m convinced that there must be a simple solution!
=> please help!
Thankful in advance!
Please note: I don’t have any kind of connection to Internet via SE Xperia X10.
Thanks JPTN i know i had not asked that one but i was suffering from the same and i found these thread and result is i got solved this problem.

Thank you so much, BUT the issue was completely misunderstood.
From procedure described in my post and from my “please note” it should be obvious that a solution for Astro File Manager installation has to be based on download from PC to SE Xperia X10 - and NOT via any kind of X10 connection to Internet (downloads from Android Market via browser, access via WiFi or whatever else).
@PTN: it’s not true that Android Market, WiFi… are “the only ways”!
My choice for direct installation of applications on the SD-memory card is Metabo’s Astro File Manager. If you have Astro on your phone, you don’t need Internet connection – your download application file from PC to USB-connected SD-memory card, launch Astro, find and tap the application file and perform install.
That’s all!
Now back to the point:
- the only problem is how to get an executing version of Astro File Manager on your phone without internet connection!
- the steps I’ve done to install Astro are described in my very first post and there shoud be no doubt what’s all about.
- in the meantime, I’ve received instructions from Metabo Support how to proceed from the point I’ve reported in my first posting.
- for those wanting to install Astro.apk via PC onto phone w/o Internet connection, here the complete procedure:
(As this procedure is valid for any “non-market *.apk”, appname.apk is used instead of astro.apk)
Download application to your PC & copy to phone’s SD-memory card
1. download appname.apk to PC
2. connect your phone via USB to the PC; enable "external storage device mode” via USB
3. via phone’s settings allow “non-market” applications
4. copy appname.apk file to X10’s SD-memory card into root directory
Download and install Android SDK & USB-driver
(those having it already installed: go straight to p.8 !)
5. download Android SDK compatible with your PC-OS onto your PC
6. execute SDK setup, select and install Android 1.6 platform
(NB: it takes about 30’ as all platforms 1.5 – 2.2 are being installed, but only 1.6 is marked as non-obsolete)
The result is adb.exe
7. download Android USB driver to provide adb.exe with USB interface to your phone
Install appname.apk
8. execute in PC command shell (for XP: Start-> Programs -> Accessories – command):
adb -d install <full-path-name>appname.apk
In addition, here some useful adb commands:
adb help -> shows all commands and options
adb version -> shows version number
adb usb -> restarts adbd daemon listening on USB
adb devices -> list all connected devices
adb version -> show version number
adb install [-l] [-r] [-s] <file> -> push this package file to the device and install it
[-d] -> directs command to the only connected USB device
[-l] -> means forward-lock the app
[-r] -> means reinstall the application, keeping its data
[-s] -> means install on SD-card instead of internal storage
adb uninstall [-l] <package> -> remove this app package from the device
Best regards!

I've xperia x10a, rogers branded, although rogers is not operation here in Pakistan.
Noticed there is no file explorer in phone. what a stupid thing that there is no file explorer in phone. downloaded some apk games and Astro 2.5.2.apk so can install file explorer to phone and pandahome_v1.90.apk but how to install in phone. have no wifi access as it seems it is installed from internet. tried using blutooth but and pc companion and media go and all in vain.
guys please guide now just downloading Android SDK AVD Manager so could install apps to x10a from pc.
Read the replies above.
SDK is way too complicated. Just connect to WiFi and use the Market.
Or download it directly through a browser: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=CZ5Q1F02
Guys, Thanks for your support. Searching alot for installing app and games to android device from pc. I've found this Download and It works. http://androidcommander.com/
MY FRIEND! Move the file astro manager (that you have download ) to an other phone (e.x. I move it to SE C902) and send it via bluetooth. when you accept it you can install directly!
