This thread is to help people with VoIP on their Nokia phones.
Harry_Y found this page which I'd like to post:
VoIP support in Nokia devices
VoIP Providers:
http://www.voipcheap.com
http://www.voipbuster.com
http://www.callcentric.com
http://www.voip.ms
I have experience with the E71 and the E72.
Please feel free to add to that to make this guide useful for more devices.![]()
Nokia E71
Menu > Settings > Connection > SIP Settings
I have these, but yours should be empty (delete the one(s) you have in there and start from scratch)
Options to add a New SIP Profile and it should like these (replace voipbuster by voipcheap each time and do not add the "sip:" yourself, the phone will do it):
OK now, leave the Proxy settings blank. The *** in password are there by default. In fact I didn't enter anything so it is blank.
I use CallCentric and voipbuster.
For the former, proxy settings need to be filled-in and transport mode needs be set on UDP. However for the latter, just like for voipcheap, proxy settings can be left blank and Transport Mode left on Auto.
Fill-in the registrar settings as follows and replace voipbuster by voipcheap. Also the username should your voipcheap username without anything behind it (unlike above where the username was username@voipcheap.com )
OK done. Now back out one level and select Internet Tel in Menu > Settings > Connection >
Again it should be empty. Delete anything you have in there if not and start from scratch.
Create a new one and name it.
Then click the second field and select the Profile you created above (there should only one: cheapvoip). In mine I have several profiles because I have both Home and Office profiles set as you saw in the first few screenshots above. You should have only one: the one we created prior.
Now if everything went well, wait a few seconds and go back in Menu > Settings > Connection > SIP Settings
Your voipcheap should listed and underneath it should read Registered which means your E71 is connected to the voipcheap server.
Come on back out to the Home screen. Type a number and hit the left Options (softkey) > Call > Internet Call
Common Error message and solution:
"Unable to save. Profiles in same realm must have same user name."
If you need to set-up different providers and then different profiles for each provider like me then you need to do everything in SIP Settings first, before you move on to Internet Tel.
I cannot stress this enough. Start from the beginning, set everything in one go in SIP Settings and then only should you move on to the Internet Tel. and create profiles there.
I use:
VoipBuster 1) from Home WAN 2) from Office WAN
Callcentric 1) from Home WAN 2) from Office WAN
So, I got this error message, I deleted everything SIP related except my Access Points under Settings > Connection > Access Points and started from scratch:
Settings > Connection > SIP Settings -
then once there Options > New SIP Profile > Use Default Profile
Set-up Voipbuster (Office)
then Options > New SIP Profile > Use Existing Profile. Renamed it Voipbuster (Home) and changed the Access Point.
Set-up Callcentric (Office) and did the same as above.
Nokia E72
The E72 supports VoIP but the SIP client is "missing" out of the box so you have to download and install it.
SIP VoIP Settings
When done:
Menu > Ctrl. panel > Settings > Connection > SIP Settings
Left soft key: Options > New SIP profile > Use default profile:
Pick a name for the profile in Profile Name, pick the Default Access Point, Public User Name should be in the form of: username@voipprovider.com, Registration should be Always On if you want to be connected with the VoIP server at all time when a data connection is avail (best if you are also receiving VoIP calls) or When needed if you want to connect only when you place an internet call,
Leave Proxy Server alone and go into Registrar Server:
Get the settings from your particular provider.
But for voipbuster:
Registrar server address is : sip.voipbuster.com
Realm: voipbuster.com
User name: username (without the @voipbuster.com behind it)
Password
Transport: UDP
Port: 5060
For callentric:
Registrar server address is : callcentric.com
Realm: callcentric.com
User name: username (without the @callcentric.com behind it)
Password
Transport: UDP
Port: 5060
That's it for the SIP Settings.
Now: Menu > Crtl. panel > Net Settings > Advanced VoIP Settings > Create new service, you should see the Profile you previously created (above) listed. Select it and you are done. You'll be taken to another screen (which in fact is the Contacts page and you'll the option to Activate the service (meaning connect the internet telephone service you just created to the VoIp servers in its profile).
I have created several profiles for each of the two VoIp providers I use.
Common Error message and solution:
On the E72, to turn off the internet telephone/ deactivate the service, you have to go into contacts, arrow up to the area that reads "Phone" on top, click down and you get a drop down menu, select the service you want to disconnect, left soft key "Options" and Deactivate service.

This is a great thread. Should be a sticky.
Due to the similarities with the E71, the E66 should be fairly similar to set up VOIP for.
Ditto the E75 with the E72.
x2, definately should sticky this thread.Originally Posted by Jimmy_K

Can anyone with solid knowledge help us make this work on our E71 and E72?

Any idea how to unlock this Nokia Client in my 5800 or do I have to suffer with my purchase?
I don't like Fring or Nimbuzz because I just want SIP client. I tried VPhone but its unstable, lacks features and goes through the battery like its candy.
Anyone, someone has to have Voip Client for this phone or some software where you don't have to go through 100 steps to get it to sign or work.
I am willing to test a client if it will help in development.
Nokia has sites for research and development, manufacture and sales in many countries throughout the world. As of December 2009, Nokia had R&D presence in 16 countries and employed 37,020 people in research and development, representing approximately 30% of the group's total workforce. The Nokia Research Center, founded in 1986, is Nokia's industrial research unit consisting of about 500 researchers, engineers and scientists.
I'm reading this and I am confused as some of the posts are old, and I'm not sure exactly the original poster meant with the pictures.
I need help from square one.
Thanks,
CS
Does any one know how to setup Nokia E71 for SIP Video calls?
Make sure you have latest firmware for your phone, some Nokia's dont have native SIP Client built in, so you can use Fring or Nimbuzz which provide you FREE software to make VoIP / SIP calls on your Noki
