Does the Telus Milestone support 2100MHz 3G?

I'm about to trade my Milestone for a brand new Xperia X10a because I'm going to be travelling later this year and I need that 2100MHz band.

Can anyone confirm that this phone has the 2100MHz 3G band? Every website I've been to says that it only has 850/1900MHz but others on this board say otherwise.

Has anyone tested this phone in Asia/Europe?

there are 2 versions of the milestone. The telus branded one does not support 2100mhz, only 1900 and 850 for NAM. There is a version of the milestone that is sold in Europe and does have 2100. The telus branded device will work in europe and Asia, but not on 2G. You will be limited to 2G and wifi.

No, Motorola does not make a different hardware radio exclusively for Telus. The physical radio is identical to the one in the Brazilian and Thai Milestones and offers 850/1900/2100MHz WCDMA.

Telus themselves don't list the 2100MHz WCDMA band, but they also don't list the 2G GSM bands. They just don't want people using the phone on other networks, I guess -- their network is exclusively HSDPA and only on 850/1900, after all.

The FCC filings confirm quad-band GSM and tri-band WCDMA (850/1900/2100).

    wrong

    telus milestone supports HSPA 2100.

I was in Hong Kong with my Telus Milestone and I got HSPA connection.

    Telus Milestone is HSPA 850/1900/2100.
Hong Kong HSPA frequencies are 900/1800/2100.

So the only way for me to get HSPA in Hong Kong was via HSPA 2100 since there is no 850/1900 there.

Actng, was your Telus Milestone running a Telus firmware or other? I have heard anecdotally that the Thai 2.1 firmware unlocks the hardware support for 2100 which is normally suppressed in the Telus firmware.

The Telus Milestone supports 850/1900/2100 3G frequencies. This was verified by the FCC listing. The fact is 2100 is not mentioned much because 2100 isn't used in NA period. However, if you look up the FCC filing for this device, it will have all 3 frequencies. This was discussed on AllDroid, but unfortunately the forum has been wiped with its new forum. I'm quite saddened as a LOT of development like rooting with the Brazillian SBF was all done there. A lot of useful development info was lost.

Re: Alldroid - yes a lot of great development was done there. BUT, rooting with the Brazilian SBF was overkill and is wholly unnecessary (and sadly people kept on doing it because the post was there in the forum). I think the whole reason it worked was that the SBF included the vulnerable recovery partition. The "gentle" way to do it is to flash the SBF file that only contains the vulnerable recovery and nothing else.

Well it was the way to go until the whole vulnerable recovery was discovered. You gotta remember people tried this root within days of the Telus Milestone release. I still remember. Some dude who probably wasn't even a developer and just knew how to root said "F-this I'll try it tonight." He did it, posted a few instructions and then everyone followed.

What's funny is some dimwit then made a thread about it with full instructions, got it stickied, sold his Milestone the day the N1 came out with NAM bands and kept it going. When people said "Dude you guys should stop doing this and use the Vulnerable recovery method" he told them to stop crapping his thread. The guy was so idiotic. I later laughed at him in the thread, but it seems people just kept doing the Brazillian SBF. Kinda funny.

Yes, I recall that, and the same dude was also sharting on my thread about a bug in the camera app even though he didn't have a Milestone anymore. Eck.

Anyway I do hope that whole archive of info is not totally lost to the wind. I don't know how much longer it'll be cached on Google.

So that means that the Telus Milestone would work with 3G networks in most of Europe since they are 2100Mhz ? (although French operatirs have a 900Mhz 3G network too according to this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_UMTS_networks). That's making want to swap my Euro Milestone bought from Amazon USA that cannont get 3G in the USA !

Correct. I think you'll probably find that the tri band Milestone costs more second hand than the dual band Euro model, since it works in more countries and came out a few months later.

Thanks, hard to believe Motorola wasted time and money building a neutered Milestone for Europe...and that Amazon USA are selling a Euro model with zero disclaimer on their site!

You should always look for the 3G frequencies listed before making a purchase. If they aren't listed, don't buy it.

Lesson learnt obviously, actually they're getting that phone back, but it never ocurred to me Amazon USA would sell a phone that's not compatible with the 3G USA networks...like it never occurred to me that Google would have killed AdHoc support on Android! Two problems the much dissed iPhone doesn't have ;-)
