Has anyone had a smartphone (blackberry or droid) on their plan without having the smartphone data package? i have the older 9.99 unlimited data plan and i am wondering if the phones would have full functionality on my current plan

Gotta have a data plan for a BB or Droid. Hundreds of threads on it here. No way around it.Originally Posted by td1042k

have to have the $30 data plan, there is no way around it, you cannot have a smartphone without it, you cannot activate another phone then move a smartphone to the line and not have it, if you have a smartphone you have $30 a month, there is no $10 a month for smartphones
did i miss any?
ps. YOU HAVE TO HAVE $30 A MONTH DATA PLAN FOR ALL SMARTPHONES END OF STORY
The others have answered it. And it goes a little further than being required. The system simply won't activate the phone without the plan. It is physically impossible to have a $9.99 plan for a dumb phone because it's not compatible. As soon as the ESN for a smart phone is put on your account that feature will be dropped and the 29.99 or 44.95 auto added.
you can actually buy the samsung i760, no longer carried by Verizon but supported by them, they have wi-fi and do not require the data plan... but you would have to disable to auto-dial feature or it would charge you data usage. I talked to a verizon rep recently and he confirmed this. I was thinking of going backward from my Omnia... but I think now I'll just move forward, data plans are a necessity.
The Motorola Q also falls into the category of smartphones that do not require a data plan.
Current device: White 16GB Samsung Galaxy SIII

It's funny how some smart phones don't need a data plan yet those "multimedia" phones too, just saying. But I won't change the topic.![]()
Morals: Highly subjective and completely overrated.
Even the old smartphones like the Q now require a data plan. Data can no longer be blocked on these phones.

When they made data mandatory for feature phones all that changed.
nope, you can still block it, i have done it recently, you just have to fully block all internet access
It did once this year. The Samsung Saga could be bought with no data plan. lol They fixed it very quick tho.Originally Posted by ohnoezDx
