Verizion and Voice and Data at the same time?

I'm considering getting the HTC Incredible but I heard that you cant be on a phone call and text or surf the web at the same time? Why is that? I often tend to text and talk at the same time and it's not a dealbreaker but it is kinda inconvenient. Is this something Verizon plans to change in the future?

You can text and talk at the same time. Just no web unless you are connected to a WiFi connection. It's just something CDMA2000 1XEVDO Rev A can't do. EVDV can do that and 1X Advance can with EVDO can too. It would be a lot of money I would think, and with 4G on the way, that should allow both voice and data at the same time.
v Speed Test with my Motorola Droid in AL. Droid Does (and so Does Verizon).

Speed Test with my Motorola Droid in Birmingham, AL. Droid Does (and so Does Verizon).^

Speed Test with DSL internet with AT&T(Bellsouth). Horrible.

It's SVDV that can do simultaneous voice and data on CDMA.

... but you can talk and text at the same time.

You can talk and text at the game time. But you can't talk and surf the web at the same time.

Just thought I'd throw in my two cents.

Yup, but you'll need a 4G device (i.e. not the Incredible).

It's more than just surfing the web. It's any data (any apps that use data, tethering, etc). SMS isn't data.

So are you saying he can or can't talk and text at the same time?

You can talk and surf the web simultaneously using Verizon WAN. You need an application like SipDroid which provides VOIP over WAN.

Well, apparently the card throwing counter offensive to the 'there's a map for that' ad campaign is effective......just this once.
No longer a VZW employee, but still a good information source.
