    x10 gps gmap question

for x10, it says a-gps available..
does that mean gps will only work if there's a connection?
or that it will detect better if there's a connection?

I don't have data plan, so last night i searched the route and loaded the map data before leaving home, and just didn't close the app..

but i couldn't seem to use the 'my location' feature on the gmap..
is it because gmap doesn't work offline? or is it because gps just doesn't work with out 3g/wifi on x10?

    thank you!

i would imagine that gps should work without a data connection, but it will be much less sensitive. without agps you would almost have to be outside in the open to get a lock. if you are inside, or surrounded by tall buildings it would take much longer to get a lock.

i just put my phone in airplane mode (all radios off), turned on gps, and opened google maps and it found my location using my nexus1 so hopefully it will work for you on the x10

    thanks

i think the problem is that i'm either inside or surrounded by tall buildings... i was downtown when i tried it yesterday and now i'm home trying it..

for some reason, it seems to have problem locating when it's just gps or a-gps..
but when i click the Location - Wireless networks, gmap works great and instantly finds my location......ah welll..

Remember you are using a phone with gps capability, not a gps device with phone capability

The gps chip in a phone is not as sensitive as a standalone unit
