yep, we've got root.. but you need SEToolBox to do this, which is very expensive and not feasible for the enduser.
maybe one of the paid flashing sites like davinci or wotan will let us purchase a credit and use their client software to flash, but that's still going to be expensive since we'd pay for each flash.
maybe a good samaritan can open up a network-over-usb service from their setoolbox to let people flash for free
Saw this earlier. It's good news because now this opens up major progress. Everyone was still uncertain about when it would release. Now more hackers will flock and try to make this even better. Who knows what we'll have by the end of the month.
lmao no root and no update until the end of the year?
oh well.
Updates will come out regularly and a big one is due this coming week adding Creatouch, but no UPGRADE until Q4 to what is now confirmed as 2.1 (but that many hope will be Froyo instead) and HD video recording etc.

You said "no update till end of the year" which is simply not true.
End of the year means Q4... what part of that don't you understand? We're all referring to the major 2.1 UPGRADE (definition nazi)... not the bugs/glitches update coming in the next month which everyone on here is well aware of.
Also, gingerbread will be out by then for other handsets.....

Gingerbread is going to be a huge release with WebM support.
I was leaning towards getting the X10, but I'm pretty sure now that they'll shelve the X10 after taking forever just to get to 2.2 and maybe work on a successor to try and stay with the curve..
Why are SE such idiots about their software releases? I love the phone hardware wise, killer camera and huge screen (and the 1700 3G band I need for T-Mobile), but firmware support sucks!
I won't buy the X10 unless there's a rooting solution now.
^It seems to make sense to wait until the next device... but SE said the x10 is one of their primary devices for this year. So you will have to wait until next year to get the next device... and then wait another 5 months for release. Either way, yes, a root is a more viable solution right now and I'm waiting on it.
HTC already said most of their devices are getting 2.2 this year.
