ok its me again lol I found out what the problem was...... I was calling from my other cell phone but that number was listed wrong in my virgin phone.... instead of 864 872 it was listed as 864 871... so, when I assigned that tone it was assigned to ring for my contact only.... since the number was wrong when I was calling my virgin phone from my other phone to test, it didn't ring like I wanted because that phone was not in my virgins phone contact lol!!!! now I put the right number on my cell phone and tested again and it works hahahaha how stupid

I've had to go through so many battery pulls that I don't feel like trying it one more time to verify this but I'm pretty sure that saving the sound of the qcp "ringtone" clobbered the voice memos.

It's frustrating that after years of message threads all saying how you couldn't make your own ringtone for a VM phone, this thread got my hopes up. I still hope that someone will figure out how to make this happen on a Rumor2.

    not working for me either

just got the rumor 2 today, I get as far as hearing the .qcp file in the text message I get at my#@pixmbl.com. However when I use the save sound option I cannot find it in voice memos or anywhere else like music or ringtones. Anyone got more info? to the guy who said it was in voice memos what firmware are you using ? mine is V05 with hw 1.0 and mms L12.48R_01

On the "how far you can push it" line...
I've found that anything over 250kb will go through for me, but will take a LONG time. I thought the ones I sent had actually been blocked last night, instead, they popped up roughly 4 or 5 hours after I sent them. One was over 600kb.
Great idea with the memory card. Can't wait to try it. That will be much better than saving all of my ringtones in text messages.

It did the same thing for me on both the Rumor 2 and the Rumor Touch. The voice memo feature is effectively useless. And I could not find any way to get custom ringtones at all on the Rumor 2 I had. I have had luck with the Rumor Touch using the method at the beginning of the thread though.

There is a way to do MP3 ringtones from the SD card (tadaa!) create your ringtone in the usual manner, and this time instead of giving it the .qcp extension and emailing it (which yes could possibly be blocked by VM) give it a .3g2 extension and drop it in the DCIM folder with your pix and videos.

Now go to the phone and under main menu -> tools -> file manager browse to the picture folder and click the 'more' button. Scroll down and find 'assign' click that and assign it to incoming calls and then one contact.

This might be similar to a workaround for other phones, but they had you go through movie maker and other programs. Me I like to see if the direct route works first

Give it a try and let me know how it works, also bit rate and samples...lets push this and see what we can do

    Again, Happy Ringtoning!

    You're a genius.
Works like a charm and alleviates the need to go through all of the time consuming email/texting. Also, I feel it's a bit more organized, even though the Touch will still change the file name to a numerical string once it's assigned, it is much easier to view all of the files with original names in one folder. I created a subfolder under DCIM just for ringers to keep them all in one spot. Now if there were only a way to tweak out the ***-backwards menu hierarchy...
One thing I did notice is that there doesn't seem to be way to assign the sound to messages or voicemail alerts this way. Guess you'll have to stick to the text method for that.

Yeah since the Rumor touch is a music phone it seems to be able to take the higher bitrate MP3's, but like you said it's the size of the final file that really makes a difference. I like to keep them around 3-400KB or else yeah it could take some time going the text route, not so much a problem if you use them off the card though.

When I try this on the Rumor2, nothing new appears under Voice Memos. A new file is created on the MicroSD card, but I haven't found a place on the phone from which I can access it once it's saved, other than playing it in the message.

Once the sound is in voice memos, where do you go from there? Is there a way to set it as a ringtone? I haven't found a way so far.

Thanks for letting us know the qcp files are stored in Voice Memos though. I kept saving qcp files I sent to myself @vmpix, and I had no idea where they were being saved. Now that I know, at least I'm able to delete them. So thanks.

We'll have to figure out the Rumor 2 sooner or later. Glad to see it's possible to put custom ringtones on the new phones (e.g. the LG Rumor Touch) though.
