Motorola Droid Xtreme MB810 (Shadow) Pre-Release Thread Part 2 - Information Only

I've heard conflicting reports on wheterh this phone will have android 2.1 or 2.2.

Do we know have a reasonable guess yet?

I'd guess that it depends on when it is released. If it releases in late August, Moto may not have a 2.2 version for it yet, so it would release with 2.1 and 2.2 would be out shortly thereafter. If it slides more, it may come with 2.2. Either way, I'm confident that 2.2 will be on it in the future. I'm also confident that it will get Gingerbread (2.3 or 3.0 or whatever number it will be) in the future.

Gingerbread will probably follow about 6 months to a year later...(completely my speculation)

Gingerbread is supposed to be fourth quarter of 2010. Not sure how long it would take to then get it onto the Shadow...

You don't really believe that do you? That would be like me saying the Droid is just as good if not better than the Inc.

So i have a huge dilema.. my 30 days is up on my Incredible on friday.. Should I return the incredible and use an old env2 for the next 3 months? Are russell and bill's latest predictions still august, because that might be too long i need some advice..

I'd return it.
It's looking like this phone will blow the Incredible away.

Anyone that disagrees will probably have an HTC Incredible listed under their phones. They will hate just like Droid owners did when the newest thing came out.

Also, I've heard that 2.2 will have a wireless hotspot feature like the palm pre, and Iv'e heard that VZ plan to give 5gb of free transfer using this hotspot. Do we have confirmation for any of that yet?

Shadow and Droid 2 will both release with 2.1 and 2.2 to follow in short order last I was just told earlier this week.

Honestly I don't care about the monster sbf files they are great to have buy their also a luxury. Just allow me to root if that is taken away don't know if I would be able to deal with a phone I get bored to easily and hacking my phone just makes the user experience better to me. But I have faith this will be a great phone and something I would br happy with until lte is everywhere I want it

That is part of the problem tho. We may not be able to root any of the future devices coming. Word is there is a tremendous amount of new security added to the flash files so they can't be Rooted. They are trying to stop it from happening which is why the major changes.

So maybe a dumb question, but I know rooting allows for custom ROMs. What exactly does ROM mean in this context? I always knew it as read only memory, but not sure how that applies to a phone. Anyone, please?

Best buy has a 30 day return policy incase you wanted to test out the moto droid in your down time before august.

Yes I am typing this on my incredible but I did go back and forth on whether to return this or not. With a faster processor and sense (especially the keyboard) I have decided to stick with the incredible. I might not mind a bigger screen but by christmas you know HTC will have a 4.3 inch evo type phone avail with a 1.5 chip. That's what I decided to do, but i am a big sense fan. I can't see anyone going wrong with either phone. Android is great.

i cant upgrade until august 1st so im interested in seeing what else HTC comes out with by then. not sure i would want motoblur over sense ui.

This is something I have always failed to understand. The ability to mod a phone has consistently increased interest in the phone. While locking the phone down drives users to other phones that can be hacked. You would think they would want to sell more handsets therefore increasing their profit. Look what it has done for HTC.

Since Droid Xtreme got pushed back to August im assuming that they are all releasing in august...but who knows...

If that holds true good build quality or not I wouldn't buy this phone. The Droid is huge with root and honestly its mostly kept me happy. But without the ability root and flash custom roms just to get updates prior to everyone is huge. But I will now drop this and wait but I wont be waiting in line for this. May just pick up an incredible from what I hear one person has root and kernels up to 1.5
