    Rumor Touch - Moving Contacts

Maybe there should be an Official Rumor Touch thread since I think there will be a lot of discussion about this phone, but till then.. What are the options to get contacts on this phone? I imagine you can send them one at a time via Bluetooth, any other choices? IE Does Google sync contacts on this phone?

I just did them one at a time for my wife, not sure if there is a faster way or not, but she only had about 40 so no big deal. I did try to pair with my Mac, and export a group from Address Book as in vcard format, then send that to the phone via BlueTooth... It complained about something in the file format, but it did import ten contacts from the list. Not much help, but at least it sort of works.

If it does, it would be the first VM phone in history to allow easy copying of contact list information between phones.

Contact Vault should have been that kind of a mechanism but VM implemented something that is pretty much useless.

Ah, didn't think about sending them over Bluetooth from a laptop, good idea. As per Best Buy, that's fine, I did buy the phone there .. but what do THEY do? Send it over Bluetooth, but they have a better automated tool?

VM always cripple the bluetooth on their phones.

As far as Best Buy moving the contacts over, are you mistaking the VM version of the Rumor ouch with what can be done with the Sprint version of the phone.

Do not assume that they both have the same abilities.

I hate to sound like the telephonically-challenged person that I am, but can contacts be sent via Bluetooth from a VM Rumor 2 (I will be getting a VM Rumor Touch). If so, how ? Thanks in advance for everyone's help. I do have Contact Vault service, but some posts I've read aren't making that method sound encouraging.

That is interesting since Contact Vault wasn't available on one of my older phones (the XTC if I remember correctly). It would seem that it is available on most phones now.

When I did have Contact Vault, I had no issues at all...other than paying for the service.

I had no problem transferring all of the contacts from a BlackBerry via bluetooth in one shot.

Someone just sent me a contact in the form of "vCard." I dunno how to do that myself and was wondering if it would be possible to send contacts from, say, my google account to my phone (x-tc) using this. Anyone know?

I just paired the Virgin Mobile Rumor Touch with a Palm Treo 650 via Bluetooth. Transferred all the contacts to the Rumor Touch in one fell swoop. It took about 2 minutes total to move all the contacts over.

I was able to transfer all of my Google Contacts via my laptop bluetooth. After I paired, I used the Bluetooth file transfer. The .csv file didn't work, but the .vcf did. (you can pick either in Google Contacts)

I used a free third party application called JContactBackup to load 480 contacts from gmail into my Rumor Touch. You must have a micro SD card intalled in the Rumor Touch. It takes about 12 steps to do the download. See: http://hubpages.com/hub/Backup-Conta...Touch-for-Free
