Looking to switch here soon. Can I outright switch to a sprint CDMA phone or do I need a ESN activated from a boost phone before switching? Does the balance transfer over? How fast is the data compared to the iDen network? Searched and didn't get a definite answer.
all you have to do is call boost up and tell them you want to switch to cdma and give them the esn and they swap you over pronto.
I suggest you pick up a sprint 3g smart phone and take advantage of a decent phone instead of buying the crap boost phone
and cdma is so much better then iden, very fast 3g data, and txts are basically instant, vs a long time over iden, but you lose the walkie talkie feature, also you should have alot better coverage, you get sprints native coverage...
I switched from Iden to Cdma, about 3 months ago. I had a 8350i Boostberry, and I switched over to the Cdma side, with a Treo 700p. When switching from iden to cdma you lose the walkie talkie, but gain a whole lot faster data connection, text messages arrive / or are sent instantaneously, you can also send / receive text messages during a call, you can make three way calls, and instead of getting the recording, "please hold, while the subscriber you're looking for is located," you just have extra rings (like every other service.)
Iden has better reception inside of buildings, hence I tend to roam more on Cdma.
When I called to switch, they did it very quickly. My balance was moved over to the Cdma side, and my bill date, and price were the same.
I'm now using a Treo 755p, and it works great. RTFF, for what sprint phones work on Boost. When choosing your phone make sure everything works on it with Boost, i.e. data. Some phones only can do voice/text messages, but no data.
I believe only 1 phone has no data, but some people have claimed to get it and that was the Palm 800w. I might be mistaken on the model, but that's just what I can remember right now.
