Williston has a huge mass of people (that have recently located there) with lots of money to burn from the oil there.

And, I'd think it is a perfect fit. Many are camping out because of a shortage of housing, so this would be their Internet connection. Also, given that many are probably lonely by themselves, I'd suspect LTE would be beneficial for the types of streaming videos they watch.

    Verizon's 3G network. ............................................ AT&T's 3G network.

    Verizon's 4G network.

Ahh yes the Bakken oil fields...I forgot about that. You're correct there are a large number of people who will likely use this as their sole internet connection. I figured it was one of the "4g" att areas like Kansas and SD and was surprised when it wasn't.

Also looks like Eugene Oregon will be getting LTE "in the coming weeks".

Edit again....Dickison ND is also getting service...another city of under 20k...that seems to be the trend this month.

I've not seen any mentions of expanded 4G LTE in Louisville, KY, but I have proof it just happened. The only related press release that comes to mind is their announcement of HomeFusion broadband becoming available in my city - but they quickly turned around and made it a nationwide announcement...

I switched my tablet off of WiFi access this morning and had full 4 bars of LTE access from my house in the Hillview area (Old Preston Hwy). LTE signal strength went from -105ish dB to -62 dB. Here's my latest speed test:

47 Mbps down, 11 Mbps up. It's actually my fastest speed I've seen yet!

Nice! I wonder if they expanded in terms of coverage or just activated a few more sites in the city. I haven't found any here that weren't active, but perhaps I missed one! I wonder if they finally gave Shelbyville their LTE (as shown on the map for 8 months)....

At -62 dBm, you should be able to provide us with closeup pictures of the LTE panels outside your window instead of pictures of speedtests.

I'm going to guess they activated the LTE coverage at the site that I normally get my 1X and 3G coverage from. According to OpenSignal, the tower I'm on right now for 3G is just off of Blue Lick Rd. When I connect to 4G on the tablet, it was clear the signal was coming from much further away when I was very marginal signal strength wise.

Well, I can assure you it's not line of sight from my window, but if they activated LTE on the same tower I mentioned above, it won't be far away at all. I'll try to accomodate that request. :P

I don't really hunt for towers as much as Trocks. I have way too many hobbies and businesses.

here's some more partial coverage from verizon... (~1 hour north of me)

it looks like they're starting to fix the coverage where i live since my phone stays on LTE more often. a lot of areas throughout the county still have pretty bad coverage, and LTE will drop outdoors. i've also seen where LTE will drop indoors and i'll have a poor 3G signal, then go outside and i have full bars of LTE (this is on a galaxy nexus so it's not lying as much as some other phones). i have 2 bars right now and it says -100 dBm.

    ping times have improved:
and it looks like they may have congestion problems or something. the speeds in this area are always bad and it's fairly close to a pole with LTE I think.
http://g.co/maps/9mqq7 A is where a pole is, and B is where I was.

I'll find it! I think I may know where it is.

FWIW, LTE has been expanded north on 65 all the way to Scottsburg.

Several more announcements that I didn't see yesterday and many more today. Sheridan Wyoming is the first city in that state, much of Vermont, along with many coastal areas in NJ, Delaware, Cape cod, long island.
Also I expect an expansion in Sioux falls SD, Sensorly is showing coverage north on I29.
Perhaps I will start bribing Verizon to at least expand our limited coverage here.

Also I don't know about you guys, but open signal isn't accurate in my area... It just makes up towers and usually my location is upwards of a mile off when I'm not using GPS.

Just for grins I crudely chalked in AT&T's various coverage levels onto my Verizon/Pioneer map of northwest Oklahoma, where Pioneer has deployed the first phase of their LTE in Rural America launch. Over the next 10 months, probably much sooner, Pioneer will fill in all the white area with their gold/LTE, plus the rest of that quadrant and some other areas to the south. The graphic only shows about a third of northwest OK, I didn't bother doing the rest because it's all EDGE for AT&T except the black dot around the one city.

Here is a quote from a Bismarck newspaper talking about their expansion in the oil fields. This quote is from the PR person for MN, NE, SD, ND, IA, and WI." Smith said 4G service should be coming to Bismarck soon but it is a long process. The company has to add fiber to every cell site and add equipment in order for the network to work. She also said 4G should be available across the state by the end of 2013."

Now keep in mind almost the entire state is 3G, so I think we are being too optimistic when we think the 4g rollout will be completed by June 2013. It has taken 18 months to get where we are today, I don't see any way they could be done in 13 months. The only way I see that happening is if the fiber is in place to a majority of cell sites now.

Perhaps I'm being too negative, but I realize there is a lot of area to cover and obviously it takes a considerable amount of time.

Here is the "unofficial" press release for VT.Officially,LTE doesn't go live until May 17th. At the moment it looks like it's basically the Burlington metro area and the RT.7 & I-89 corridors: http://news.verizonwireless.com/news...12-05-09i.html Still, I'm a pretty happy camper!

I agree. I am sure Verizon is not finished with their new territory announcements for this month, but so far this year they have been nothing but more of the same, little polkadots of coverage everywhere, with none of the fill-in-the-blanks that it's going to take to cover their 3G footprint by June 30,2013 at all. The announcements so far this month deal mostly only with covering beach communities in the northeast, which don't amount to much. I just have to laugh at the announcement to cover Lancaster and York counties in Pennsylvania, as I'm sure the Amish are just DYING to get their LTE. Why on earth those areas get LTE while major cities like Amarillo and Topeka don't is just mind-boggling to me. I pointed this out a while back and was told Amarillo is because it's in Texas, and is AT&T territory, but AT&T hasn't launched LTE there either! In fact, AT&T just upgraded Amarillo to HSPA+ a few months ago.

Various apologists will say that rural areas will be easier to cover with 700 Mhz and that's true, but we aren't seeing any of that yet. They will also say that the equipment has already been installed and is just waiting to be turned on, but as your quoted story say, that isn't true everywhere either. Verizon's LTEiRA partners won't help because they will cover areas where Verizon has not built a system.

There are lots of reasons I don't think they will make their deadline. I hope they do make it, they are so far ahead of AT&T it's ridiculous and it will be fun to watch and see what happens.
