Maybe it will help if I list all of the settings I have...
lmarrie, I believe you can get everything working without having to set the Tethered NAI (will try to confirm when I get my Eris back). Try skipping that setting, continuing with the guide, and see where that gets you.

On a seperate note...it looks like i can download apps.
It happened by accident, i wanted to download a live wallpaper but after seeing it on the "starting download" for a few minutes i cancelled it. Then a minute later my phone popped up with the downloading symbol. I looked, and there it was...downloading!
I figured it was a glitch or something. just now i went onto the market and for the hell of it, i selected Myspace mobile. After a minute or two on "starting download" it actually started downloading like its supposed to. Wasnt the fastest download thanks to 1x but at least APPS CAN BE DOWNLOADED WITHOUT WIFI NOW!!!
maybe this has something to do with the Optimus M launch? Maybe Metro had to adjust their stuff to allow Android Market downloads...
hey Mojo...was doin some reading and got an idea. Would the APNs or anything else from the Optimus M aide in this tutorial for anything? or if a new autostart or APN stuff was done up using the Optimus's settings get things going even better?
I will be looking into the Optimus M settings when time permits... holidays are a busy time right for us so I haven't much time to spare. I did note that with the launch of the Optimus M, some feature that didn't work before are now working: market downloads (as you mentioned) and voice search. I think they may have open the ports that these things use in anticipation of their new Android line-up.
Be on your guard. There are older and fouler things than trolls in the deep subforums.
Well another development on that front, Mojo. Market downloads barely BARELY work (most of the time they dont now), voice search stopped working, and the stock email client stopped working again. Not sure what changed or whats going on. Do you think this might have to do with the plan im on? Metro insists on the $50 plan for the Optimus Im on the $40) so im curious of that means anything. This sucks, my hopes got raised up then totally shattered lol.
Hey Mojo thanks for your help. I have set everything else manually as per the guide but still no web. I wonder if it may have something to do with the new change in plans.

I don't think it's the plans. I have the I40 and still get everything. How far have you gotten in the guide? For web you can do the Anycut method (Part I Step 11-13) or Autostart method (Part III, the recommended method). Either way make sure you are using your MSL for the password and not metropcs.
Also, the EPST equivalents for QPST fields are:
Code:
Under the EPST Security section:
===============================================
Droid Eris EPST --> QPST Menu Item
===============================================
HDR AN AUTH User Id (LONG) --> AN User ID
HDR AN AUTH Password (LONG) --> AN Password
PPP USER ID --> Um User ID
PPP PASSWORD --> Um Password
S.IP DUN User name --> Um Tethered NAI

I have completed the entire guide. I can't do the Anycut method because even on wifi the market place does not work so I can't download anything. I guess I will just have to face that I won't ever have web or MMS on this phone.

even email access through the stock mail app for you works, Mojo?
Mine hasnt worked ever since i completed this guide...
I should clarify that when I said everything, I mean everything mentioned in the guide. I don't use the stock mail app. Even when I got it partially working, it was flaky for me. I use the gmail app and yahoo mail app for their respective services. I set up rules in my other emails to automatically forward a copy to gmail.

That's odd that the market doesn't work for you. Can you describe the problem? Is there no market app installed? Have you setup a Goolge account? Did you sync your Google account with the phone yet? Is your ISP or router blocking the port required for downloads? Do you get a proper WiFi connection on the phone (you can test by seeing if you can browse the web on WiFi with the phone)?

Yes, all of that is done. Account is setup synced etc. I use the web on wifi all the time at home and various locations and web browsing is great. I have downloaded things before such as music from Amazon, so ownloaing is not the issue. Whenever I try to connect to the marketplace I always get the message "server unavailable."
I actually don't think I need the Anycut because I can reach the APN's manually, however, none of that really matters unless I can get the web working. Do I maybe need to flash another ROM? I can't see any good reason why my web should not be working at this point.
I even tried flashing an application that would automatically provision the phone for metropcs web and mms but after successfully flashing it, web still doesn't work. I am at a total loss at this point.
Were you asking me about "read from phone?" If so, no because I entered the settings manually. How do I find out or know what ROM I'm using? All I know is it's firmware version 2.1 does that tell you anything?
Well you would know if you loaded a custom ROM through recovery. Im not sure how well this guide works on a stock 2.1 ROM and that may be your issue. I loaded XTRom 4.6.5, faster and stable with this guide (if you noticed, mojo recommends GRDLOCK 2.1 rom with root, this is what im talking about when im talking about ROMs). Also, in QPST, you need to make sure you READ FROM PHONE first, especially on the MIP tab.
Soooo, I got brave and flashed the suggested ROM. I think web is working BUT I'm not sure because I keep getting a pop up that says HTC sense, messages and something else have stopped working and I have to do a forced close. Now what do I do?
redownload the the ROM and reflash. Make sure you wipe the dalvik cache after you wipe the device (all through recovery). Theres something wrong in the kernel thats causing it to do that and from my research when a newly flashed ROM has essential functions crashing, you need to re-flash. MUST wipe the dalvik cache before re-flashing.
So I did all of the above multiple times, wiped everything, tried a different ROM (kaosFroyo) bad idea LOL. Went back to GRDLOCK 2.1 rom with root, started over from step 1 and still no web *sigh*
You're doing something wrong. Sometimes i have an issue with web not working when the phone starts up...
basically i dont have web access due to AUTOSTART.SH not loading. Ive watched the phone startup a few times and DID NOT see autostart go...web didnt work. Restarted multiple times until i made sure i saw AUTOSTART.SH get granted superuser permission, then web worked. I followed this guide to a T only i used a different ROM (XTRom 4.6.5) and it works fine.
If you cant figure out what you're doing wrong and cant get web working, then you will need to do the Anycut method. If you cant download it via marketplace, find it online and drop the APK in your SD card then use Astro File Manager or something similar to open it and install.
