HOW TO: Fully Flash an HTC Droid Eris to Metro PCS (Tutorial v2.0)

n00B here. Great thread. I've read the whole thread and took notes. I have some questions.

1. I'm a little lost with all the versions of ROM out there.
First I will buy a phone on Ebay and don't know which OS it will have.
I am understanding correctly, that I need to go to this thread and try their solution first, so I would have a rooted phone regardless of OS?

If yes, then it becomes more difficult, as it requires to select one ROM from this thread. In this thread, they also warn about non-rooted leak 2.1 ...????!!! Which losts me.

I'd would definitively like to have 2.1 running on this phone. And if possible try to follow this thread only. So what should I do?

2. If I figure that the phone I get is 1.5, then which of the Grdlocks files should I get. Link.
- VanillaDroid v1.0
- Official 2.1 Rom with root
- All in One (what is this?!?!)

3. Is a phone with Bad ESN really fine? (Just want to confirm)

I'm 95% sure of everything I'm saying
1. Yes buy any eris.
2. Easy way to root is here I'd also suggest NOT doing it on win 7 64bit!
3. Good bad or ugly esn is OK!

Once your phone is rooted you can change out roms easier than wiping your *** with leafs.

My question for whoever... I have EVERYTHING working except nobody is able to receive pictures from me....

Now, the Eris Master gives you a choice of 5 ROMS. Which one to use?

- Eris Official
- Kaos Legendary
- VanillaDroid
- Aloysius

I'd obviously would like something close to OS 2.1. However, if there's anything lighter/faster it might be nice.

Would this ROM be compatible with the one from grdlocks, support IPTABLES and allow MMS with the APN Backup & Restore method?

Is this ROM working fine with this tutorial (supports IP table)? I assume it is equivalent to a standard 2.1, but faster? Is it one of the ROM you can select using the automated rooting software Eris Master (mentioned earlier)? Or where to find it/ how to install it?

Again, I'm trying to find the best way to get a 2.1 ROM (fast and light definitively a plus) that will let me follow this Howto without much trouble.

I'll start off by thanking the creator of this guide! I have fully flashed several Eris phones now. THANK YOU!

My question is whether anyone has gotten a working WIRELESS tething app to function on MetroPCS. I have searched and search. I have tried both Barnacle Wifi Tether and Wireless Tether. I get them to appear as wifi spots but a connection is never found. I discovered after turning the Apps off that my other apps no longer work using the internet and I have to restart my phone. It's like it messes up the AutoStart App. I am running a rooted stock 2.1 rom.

Please any insight would be much appreciated!

First off thank you drunkenmojo for posting this guide.

Now the problem.

The autostart.sh under the directory /u2nl/autostart/new/metropcs/ dated 7/30 does not run for me on my HTC eris when I try to run it from adb command prompt it says that tcp is not a valid command the autostart.sh in /u2nl/autostart/htcheroeris/metropcs dated 6/2 dose run and works for me. I don't know enough about iptables to correct the script to keep mms from being sent through u2nl. Are there any linux guys that are good with iptables that can take a look at it?

Guys. I need help BAD. I think my Eris has funked out on me in a way. I did this tutorial to a T yesterday, INCLUDING flashing the recommended ROM thats in the tutorial. (2.1 with root) and everything was fine and dandy. I was searching the web and all. Then, today around noon, NOTHING when it comes to connecting to the web. It just STOPPED.. I cant even get the little up/down arrows about the signal to pop up that shows Im connected. I just get pop ups saying I need a data connection to go online or whatever. Ive checked and check, and got nothing. Ive also made sure 1,000 times that my data is turned on, and tried turning off then on, reset the phone, and even wiped it, and re did everything to a T again, and nothing. Does ANYONE know what the issue is? This REALLY sucks. Had the phone maybe a month and this happens. Please tell me Im not screwed.. lol

So you did have everything working correct? apparently metro is working on their mobile network today. so it might take a few for them to finish, depending on were your located

Well, thats the strange thing. Oh, yeah, it was working up until noon, but anyways. Ive had friends who are on metro pcs, pull up their web, and it works, then a friend with a flashed instinct checked his, and it works. Im sooo confused. The thing wont even TRY to connect. You know? Its as if the mobile network is OFF on my phone, but its not. I was wondering if it might be the ROM causing the issue, but Im still fairly new on the droid stuff, so I dont know. Guess I can give it some time and see whats up. Oh yeah. Im in the Dallas, TX market.

Ok. I THINK this might be the issue. Any help on this would be great. I sold my old windows phone to a guy on craigs list, and it was also fully flashed to metro pcs. He sent me a text today, asking what the login and password was. I told him it was his 10digitnumber@mymetropcs and password was metropcs. We all know this of course. He sent me a text back saying that didnt work, but her used the OLD number for the login and it worked. That old number he is using is the number I have now. I dont know HOW hes making that work, cause I thought the login had to be the same as your number assigned to that phone, but the question is, could that have anything to do with my phone not being able to log on to the web now cause he's using MY info? I could be an idiot and just rambling, but to ME, that makes sense. thanks in advance.

The same thing happen to me around 4am when metropcs cell sites do a night time reboot to erase cell site errors. I notice my 1x icon was gone it didn’t show up and turn off data radio and back on but nothing happen; I also booted my htc hero and got nothing. No Data, MMS so I check my PPP setting using QPST and notice that my 6 digit password was erase. For some reason the metropcs password is no longer working. I went to whiterabbit.org and got my new msl 6 digit password. I use that and walla and my 1x icon re-appear. I think metropcs is making security changes to their network to block people from using data on flashed phones...

This also ipply to you, put your phone in QPST go to PPP tab and put your new 6 digit MSL code. Get your MSL code from www.whiterabbit.org let me know if it worked. Its not a rom issue the samething happend to me.
