I'll start off by thanking the creator of this guide! I have fully flashed several Eris phones now. THANK YOU!

My question is whether anyone has gotten a working WIRELESS tething app to function on MetroPCS. I have searched and search. I have tried both Barnacle Wifi Tether and Wireless Tether. I get them to appear as wifi spots but a connection is never found. I discovered after turning the Apps off that my other apps no longer work using the internet and I have to restart my phone. It's like it messes up the AutoStart App. I am running a rooted stock 2.1 rom.

Please any insight would be much appreciated!

This also ipply to you, put your phone in QPST go to PPP tab and put your new 6 digit MSL code. Get your MSL code from www.whiterabbit.org let me know if it worked. Its not a rom issue the samething happend to me.

Ok. Here's what I got. I have done EVERYTHING, INCLUDING, a hard reset, which happened to erase EVERYTHING in the phone, including the metro prl. So after an hour of setting everything back up to make it work again, I hooked it up to QPST, did everyting like the instructions say, and nothing. BUT, there is another little update. If I go into my wireless & network setting, my mobile network tab is grey and says that it is "turning on" but it never does. Ive found a few threads regarding this issue, but none of the fixes actually FIXED it. One said to remove Spare parts app from the phone, which I couldnt as it was a part of the ROM, so I flashed it to the Lightning Bolt ROM, same problem, said to do a battery pull, same problem. Said to hard reset, did that, and SAME problem. Why will my freakin mobile network not finish "turning on" Seems to of happened once I put the mobile network widget on my phones home screen, but since the hard reset, I havent put it back on there and its STILL screwing up. Have you guys heard of this issue, and there is there a DEFINATE fix for this? If you google "mobile network not connecting" will you get suggestions that have the Hero, and Incredible, and thats the ones I read, but the solutions I found are BUNK and not helping me at all. Im to the point where Im going to punch a baby. lol. I LOVE this phone, and REALLY dont want to be screwed to where I have to get rid of it. Plus, who would by a metro pcs Droid Eris, with a busted @$$ internet and mms? lol

I placed the widget on my home screen and turned it off and on a couple of times and it worked! I think an app tried to access metropcs with 3G something and messed up the mobile network. Thanks Spangenberg. Ill check that out when I get to the house. Im at work right now and they have the WIFI password protected here, and they wont give it to us. Makes a lot of sense. Anyways. Ill update you guys with the outcome.

Oh, by the way. I dont know if this matters or if its obvious, considering the issue, but my 1x connection isnt even showing up either. Well, 3g wont pop up for that matter either. Sorry. Didnt realize it until I looked at a screen shot I took of the phone before this happened. So, in short. I have NO 1X or 3G showing on the phone, data wont connect and appears to get stuck when trying to cause all it says is "Turning on". Done a soft reset, battery pull, a wipe, flashed a different rom, checked all settings and even a HARD reset. All the same outcome. NOTHING. Gonna try Spangebergs thing, but until then, other Ideas are welcomed as well. You know. Just in case.. lol

Same exact thing was happening to me. This fixed it instantly. All I showing were the signal bars. I had it happen to me before and I went through my apps and deleted them chronologically until it worked. I had a wifi manager messing it that time.

Welp. Me again. I downloaded toggle data from the market, and guess what. NOTHING!!! Its as if Im not even doing anything. No effect what so ever when I press it. I think Im pretty much screwed here. I can get calls, text, and use the wifi, but as far as getting the 1x symbol, connection symbol, or connection at ALL, Im screwed. Nothing has worked. No soft reset, no hard reset, no battery pull, and not even a different ROM fixed this. Anyone who can fix this crap will be a man amongst men. lol Thanks for trying though, Spangenberg.

Hello All - I finally got my phone and worked on it probably for 8h!! I got the web to work, but Gmail and GPS are not working...

- I used this method to root the phone.
- Then I tried Grdlocks eris21official ROM (here) and I'm on xtrROM 3.03 now (here)
- In Part 1, the only issue I got was the error message when writing NV: NV_UE_IMEI_I status: NV_READONLY_S; which after researching it shouldn't have affected the changes I've made. I also noticed that in the tab CDMA the phone number listed wasn't mine, but changing it prevented me from accessing the web.
- I used AnyCut proxy setting.
- I completed the rest of the HowTO with only one last problem: the reboot command wasn't successful at the end of the section about u2nl and autostart. I had to pull the battery. (I also had to work with Hero Diag drivers as I couldn't find the one for Eris)

Now web works (even though only 1x), but when I try to sync my gmail account I get a "Network error"!! GPS also doesn't seem to work. Although I get the google maps to work fine with approximate location. Those are to major functions I can't live without. Market and MMS are secondary for me.

Anybody could help? Or try to help troubleshoot the problem.

GrdLock works fine for me except the fact that I can't send MMS to non-metro people. If you follow the guide it will work!

My question is... There's no easy way to go about trying out different roms without having to go through this guide over and over and over again? btw I'm going to try using titanium backup for all my apps, is there one better and will it do settings as well?

First off thank you drunkenmojo for posting this guide.

Now the problem.

The autostart.sh under the directory /u2nl/autostart/new/metropcs/ dated 7/30 does not run for me on my HTC eris when I try to run it from adb command prompt it says that tcp is not a valid command the autostart.sh in /u2nl/autostart/htcheroeris/metropcs dated 6/2 dose run and works for me. I don't know enough about iptables to correct the script to keep mms from being sent through u2nl. Are there any linux guys that are good with iptables that can take a look at it?

hi. i did everything all over again and finally i got it to work. all is working fine. except the email. more on this later. internet, navigation, gps, all apps work except for opera browser. but thats ok because dolphin browsers work.

the main problem that i was having was the rom that i was using. i was using a more simpler rom and for some reason, it wasnt working. so i used the gridlock one specified.

so i got everything working....HOWEVER

all was working fine and dandy when last week, i could not send or receive emails from my email. one is an att email, the other, our exchange and the other a live.com mail. when i do the refresh to get new mails i get "alert:network error" when i send and email same message.

note: all is working though. i have internet, app market, google maps, navigation, bowser, dolphin, youtube, navigation AND GMAIL working. yes i can send and receive emails in gmail. but the other email program stopped working. it was working for a week then suddenly it stopped.

any ideas would be much appreciated. i tried to load up the aps again but still no work. my dl speed is 224kbps and upload is 400kbps using speedtest.net software.

it was working before.. i wonder what happenened. maybe something changed with metro? em i the only one having this kind of issue. it seems pretty wierd considering i can send the receive gmails.

I'm almost at the same point as you m332ti. Almost everything works but email. Yesterday, prior to whiterabbitorg's post I had found token419 script and loaded it. Which was so simpler compared to the solution in this thread. However, even though everything is working fine now, I still can't sync Gmail without wifi!!!!

I'm not on grdlocks 2.1, but a very similar one (same build, same kernel, also based on the verizon one), xtrsense 4.0.6. Eventually I could try to go back to grdlocks 2.1, but I had tried it initially and I had the same prb.

So my question is, what else could I try aside from changing ROM again? Is this proxy/internet data routing thing all configured in this mysterious IPtable? (If I do have to chg ROM again, is there a way to save all my text msg, downloaded apps and other settings, so I don't have to re-set all everytime?)

All Im trying to figure out why when i write the nv items I got from whiterabbits site, they go away and reult back to original ones and kicks out the 1x with the arrows. These new NV items are the only way to prevent my turning on issue in the mobile network settings. I update the NV items and I instantly get my network connection back and all is good, but if I reset the phone, or turn it off, I lose those NV items and get back the old ones that dont work. Any help would be appreciated...

I need to correct my previous statement: for some reason Gmail does sync now!! Which is great. Maybe it required a few more reboots. I don't know.
However, the last hurdle is the Apps. Can't download them unless I'm on wifi!

Also, I noticed that my speed is always 1x. Has anyone which followed this guide managed to get 3G? Do you see the 3G logo on top of the little communication arrows? Or how do you check your data transfer speed?
